Four months after the devastating Kantamanto Market fire, the leadership of the Kantamanto Traders Association has officially rendered an account of all donations received and expenditures made toward the reconstruction of the market.

At a gathering with traders and the media, Chairman of the Interim Management Committee, Mr. Aikins Boakye Mensah, expressed gratitude to all donors and praised his team for their transparency and hard work.

He stated that the committee had diligently managed all resources received to ensure a swift recovery for the traders and the market as a whole.

“We’ve done a diligent job not just for the traders but for Ghana. Kantamanto is back and fully operating. Anyone who wishes to trade here should do so without fear,” – he announced.

According to the committee, the market reconstruction received a total of GHC 1,111,200 in cash donations. Major contributors included:

The committee reported that GHC 750,998 was spent on the reconstruction, which included structural repairs, new stalls, roofing, and sanitation.

This leaves a balance of GHC 360,202.

Beyond the cash, various individuals and organizations also donated building materials and other supplies, which, when converted to cash value, amounted to GHC 1,292,675.

These materials were crucial to speeding up the reconstruction process.

Mr. Boakye Mensah assured traders and the public that every contribution has been properly accounted for.

He emphasized that the remaining funds would be used prudently and called for continued cooperation among traders to maintain peace and discipline within the market.

The Kantamanto Market, one of Ghana’s busiest trading centers, was engulfed in flames four months ago, destroying hundreds of stalls and goods.

The swift response and transparency by the committee have drawn praise from many traders and stakeholders.
