Konongo Explosion:  Regional Minister pledges GHc5K support to each affected household

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoako Hene has pledged GHc5,000  financial support for each of the thirty households affected by the devastating explosion in Odumasi near Konongo.

Shops selling mining explosives were allegedly responsible for the explosion, which has now claimed three lives.

“So I have instructed that the NADMO here gives us comprehensive report on the households affected so that we can lease to see how best we can intervene, the NADMO stores at the regional level too, I will instruct them. All the emergency items that they have, they need to bring them down to make sure that they are able to, as it were, support the affected family,”Dr. Frank stated.

“Again, we are supporting each household with GHc5,000 all the 30 households which amounts to almost a hundred and fifty thousand. We will make it available to the coordinating director and Nananom so that the households can have some emergency release for a few days ahead,”He added.

The tragic explosion happened on the night of March 5, 2025, at Odumasi, near Kanongo, in the Asanti Akyem Central municipality of the Ashanti Region.

There are now additional safety concerns in the area because the explosion only happened a few meters from a petrol station.

Authorities say the operators of the explosive shops have absconded and security agencies are actively investigating and tracking them down.

Sadly, some locals attacked the Ghana National Service with stones and forced them to leave when they came to control the fire.

Although the attack’s motivation is still unknown, some sources speculate that the violence may have been stoked by resentment and mistrust towards the emergency services.

Meanwhile, authorities are working to Assess the full impacts of the explosion while rescue efforts continue.

The powerful blast left several others injured and caused widespread destruction.

It has shattered windows, damaged structures and sent residents running for their lives.
