The Korle-Bu Senior Staff Association (KOSSA) and the Health Service Workers Union have debunked reports that the new management under Dr Felix Anyaa sold the hospital’s DNA machine to the Trust Hospital due to its inability to pay for it.
The Ghanaian Times newspaper on the 6 Februar,y 2018 published a story with the headline : ‘Korle-Bu DNA machine seized, resold to the Trust Hospital due to Korle-Bu's failure to pay for it,’
However, in a press statement, KOSSA explained that the incident took place three years ago under the former CEO, Dr Gilbert Buckle and that it is unfair and misleading to create the impression that the current management disposed of the machine.
‘We wish to state that this incident happened three years ago under the ten administration of the former CEO Dr Gilbert Buckle. These were some of the issues KOSSA was speaking against that brought it into collision with the then administration,” the statement said.
KOSSA, however added that structures are being put in place to restore clinical and investigative services in the foreseeable future and DNA service is part of the restructuring.
Meanwhile, the group has rejected claims in some quarters that the hospital urgently needs a board .
The Concerned Action Movement recently petitioned the presidency to quickly reconstitute a new Board for the Teaching Hospital.
“We deem this action as highly inappropriate and an attempt to stampede government into hasty reconstitution of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Board.
“We trust government's ability to constitute a fitting Board that will team up with management to continue the positive works we have witnessed lately under the leadership of the Acting Chief Executive, Dr Felix Anyah,” KOSSA said.
It said under leadership of Dr Anyah, the hospital has been able to refurbish the oxygen plants, which is saving the hospital thousands of cedis.
It has also put in place ICT and telephone systems in sensitive areas, donated a food van, motorbikes for security patrols in the hospital, two cars as awards to elicit the best performance and attitudes from staff and the peaceful staff/ management relationship.
The union said it is convinced that Dr Felix Anyah has the vision and the requisite experience to transform the hospital.
