Let’s stop attempts to remove the EC Chair – Dr Bawumia to Delegates

Dr. Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, addressing a gathering of ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates at the University of Ghana on Sunday, issued a passionate defense of democratic institutions, warning delegates to unite and resist what he described as partisan attempts to undermine the nation’s democratic foundations.

Leading the address, Dr. Bawumia said: “We will resist any attempt to remove the EC Chairperson,” vehemently underscoring his party’s determination to protect the independence of the Electoral Commission.

He urged “Kukrudites”—a popular moniker used affectionately to describe NPP members—to end internal infighting and shift their focus to what he termed “the clear intention by the NDC to undermine our democracy and rule of law.”

The former Vice President outlined a two-pronged threat, claiming that opposition forces were targeting both the Chief Justice and the Electoral Commissioner in actions designed to destabilize governance institutions.

Dr. Bawumia rallied party members to “stop internal attacks now,” calling for a united front against what he described as external political machinations.
