Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has confirmed that investigations are ongoing into the transfer of military ammunition to the National Security Secretariat in 2024, which remains unaccounted for.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, Dr. Boamah said the issue has been formally handed over to the National Security Secretariat for investigation.
“To date, those ammunitions have not been accounted for,” he said. “How the Ghana Armed Forces could transfer ammunitions to National Security, which does not have a fighting force, is a question that must be answered.”
While not giving full details, he assured Ghanaians that under his leadership, such incidents will not be treated lightly.
“Under our watchful eyes, such incidents will not be handled like in the past,” he said, promising that from January 2025 onwards, any future lapses will be dealt with firmly.
There have been growing calls for transparency and accountability over the issue, with many urging swift actions from the authorities.
