Mahama promises free WiFi for all public SHS, universities

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has promised to provide free WiFi for Senior High Schools and Universities across the country if elected back into power.

This is to push the digital and technology agenda in the country.

He said this at the launch of the NDC’s manifesto at Winneba on Saturday, August 24, 2024.

“We shall establish free WiFi for all public second-cycle and tertiary institutions nationwide,” he stated.

Still under the digital and technology agenda, Mr Mahama said the next NDC Government will partner with local tech startups and businesses to launch a ‘Digital Jobs Initiative’ to create at least 300,000 skilled employment opportunities for the youth.

“We shall establish a FinTech Growth Fund with an initial seed capital of USD50 million,” he stated.
In addition to the above, he said the next NDC-government shall train One Million Coders in-demand digital skills for the growing Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Knowledge Process Outsourcing ecosystems, ensuring no one is left behind in the digital revolution.

Also, he said they shall continue digitalising revenue and payment systems to enhance transparency and efficiency.

“We shall phase out cash for all government services by 2028 and entrench the use of POS devices. We shall establish free WiFi for all public second-cycle and tertiary institutions nationwide,” he added.
