Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has promised the people of Madina an ultra-modern market and the much-needed road infrastructure during a mini-rally held at the Madina Zongo Park.
Addressing the crowd, Mahama linked the deplorable state of Madina’s roads to the government’s failed promises and questioned the administration’s claims of having constructed more roads than any other government.
“Where is Madina’s share of your 12,000 kilometers of roads?” Mahama asked, pointing out that despite the government’s boasts, the Madina community continues to suffer from poor road infrastructure. The former president recalled his connection to the area, stating that Madina New Road was his first home after leaving his father’s house.
The issue of poor roads has long been a concern in the constituency, leading to a demonstration organized by the youth and attended by the sitting Member of Parliament, Francis Xavier Sosu, which culminated in his arrest. Despite the outcry, the roads remain in disrepair, leaving the community frustrated.
Mahama went on to promise the construction of an ultra-modern market for Madina, which houses one of the largest markets in Ghana. Modernizing this market, he stressed, would not only benefit local traders but also have a significant impact on Ghana’s economy by creating jobs and improving trade.
In endorsing Sosu, Mahama highlighted the MP’s achievements in Parliament, noting his active role in pushing important bills, as well as his commitment to education through the teachers’ awards scheme, which was commended by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) President.
“Honourable Sosu is among the best 20 MPs in Ghana,” Mahama declared, emphasizing the MP’s dedication to improving the lives of his constituents.
Mahama also urged voters to re-elect Sosu and help the NDC secure an overwhelming majority in Parliament.
In his address, Sosu reaffirmed his commitment to the people of Madina and encouraged them to vote for Mahama, stating, “John Mahama is a man of his word, and he will deliver as promised.”
