Nene Skinor Olepeme, Chief of Suisui Okwenya in Manya Krobro has condemned the destruction of some electricity poles mounted by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Currently, some communities in the Yilo Krobo and Manya Krobo municipalities have been cut off from the national grid.

The areas have been plunged into darkness since Wednesday, July 27, because Electricity Company Ghana (ECG) switched off feeders supplying power to communities in the two municipalities over illegal connections.

According to ECG, some recalcitrant residents have tampered with their transformers and reconnected power to their homes after they were disconnected for refusal to accept prepaid meters.

Commenting on the issue on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Nene Skinor Olepeme, Chief of Suisui Okwenya in Manya Krobro condemned the incident describing it as unfortunate.

According to him, some “miscreants” who do not want the development of Krobo land are responsible for the damage.

He attributed the delay in the reconnection of communities in the Yilo Krobo and Manya Krobo municipalities to the national grid to the destruction of ECG poles.

Nene Skinor Olepeme assured the general public that the communities involved will set up a task force to fish out all culprits.

“This issue has really affected us. The destruction of ECG poles by the unknown thugs came at a time we were almost done resolving our issue with ECG. We are all helping to ensure that the perpetrators of the acts are apprehended. We need to protect state properties and not destroy them,” Nene Skinor Olepeme told Kaakyire Ofori Ayim.
