It was an emotional and historic moment at the 2025 World Press Freedom Day commemoration as legendary journalist Cameron Duodu received a standing ovation from some of Ghana’s most respected voices in politics, diplomacy, and media.

The Information Minister, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, diplomats, and media gurus including Kwasi Pratt Jnr. all rose to their feet, applauding the 87-year-old pioneer whose journalistic contributions have shaped Ghana’s media landscape for over six decades.
In a moving citation presented by the GJA, Duodu was praised for his fearless editorship of the Daily Graphic, his global influence, and his continued relevance, even as he approaches his 88th birthday on May 24.

“Your thoughts are still refreshing, your pen is sharp, and your writings are frequent,” – the GJA noted, applauding his lifelong devotion to journalism.
The event also honoured a host of distinguished figures under three categories: Press Freedom Promoters, Media Developers, and Dedicated Partners.
Names such as Amb. Kabral Blay-Amihere, Prof. Kwame Karikari, Sir Sam Jonah, Bright Blewu, Unilever Ghana, and ADB Bank PLC were among those celebrated for their contributions to sustaining media excellence and defending press freedom.

Held in Accra, the ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the critical role journalism plays in strengthening democracy—and the importance of preserving its independence through the recognition of those who have defended it with courage and commitment.
