Registrar for the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana, Dr. Divine Ndonbi Banyubala, says the Council will not reduce the standards of the medical profession to one that thrives on “try and error”.

This comes after the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana urged students who are currently studying Medicine and Dentistry in Ukraine to take advantage of government’s intervention to continue their training in Ghana.

The Council has revealed that it will no longer recognize degree certificates issued by Medical and Dental Schools from Ukraine, as some schools have resorted to studying online.

According to the Council, such platforms fall short of the required training process.

In an interview with host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Registrar for the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana, Dr. Divine Ndonbi Banyubala noted that the council would not compromise the standards of the medical profession.

Dr. Divine Ndonbi Banyubala noted that Doctors have a public obligation to protect the collective health, safety and well-being of Ghanaians.

According to him, the medical education is not like buying shoes and things using online vending services.

“Doctors decide literally, with all humility, between life and death so we have a serious public obligation to protect the collective health, safety and well-being of everyone and we cannot risk playing try and error with the lives of humans.”

“When you are training to be a medical doctor, then it must be in accordance with established strategies. I am not sure potential patients will be happy to be treated by a doctor who was trained online. We have to take our public interest responsibility seriously. The point is what is the kind of training that is acceptable in the world? If it is not standard, then, I am afraid, this regulator will not give any stamp of approval”, he told Kaakyire Ofori Ayim
