Medikal convicted for brandishing a gun in public

Rapper Medikal has been convicted by An Accra Circuit Court for displaying arms and ammunition in public.

The “Omo ada” hit maker was arrested on 21th October 2021 for displaying a weapon on social media.

His arrest came 48 hours after his best friend, Shatta Wale, was also remanded for faking his own kidnapping.

An Accra Circuit Court judge on 22nd October 2021 remanded the artiste to prison custody for five days, and subsequently bailed after pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Presenting the statement of the case, the prosecution said Medikal is a popular person and that In September, 2021, whilst in his car, he displayed a Ruger 9mm pistol ”without any reasonable excuse” and posted the video on his snapchat social media platform.

In a latest development, an Accra Circuit Court in , presided over by Mr Emmanuel Essandoh today, Monday, 21 February 2022, convicted Medikal for displaying arms and ammunition.

He was subsequently denied bail, as the prosecutors were piecing evidence together to charge him for unlawful possession of a firearm.

The rapper was convicted to a fine of GHS3,600 or will serve nine months in jail after changing his plea from not guilty to guilty in open court.
