Minority’s rejection of 2022 budget will affect gov’t workers – Abronye

Ex-gratia

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe Abronye, says the rejection of the 2022 budget by the Minority in Parliament will affect government workers.

This comment by the Abronye comes after The 2022 budget statement was on Friday rejected by the country’s Parliament after a heated debate.

The rejection was made possible  after all 137 Minority Members of Parliament (MPs) voted against the motion  on Friday while  members of the Majority Caucus had abandoned their seats in protest against alleged bias on the part of the Speaker of Parliament
Prior to the crucial voting,  the Speaker  had called for a head count  to establish if the House  had form a quorum in order to proceed.
A quorum was formed per the Speaker’s judgement even though members of the Majority caucus had staged  a walkout .

All members of  the Minority Caucus proceeded to reject the 2022 budget when  the question on the motion for the approval of the budget  was put out.

The House will reconvene today, Tuesday November 30th to deliberate further on the matter.

Commenting on the issue in an interview with host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Kwame Baffoe Abronye noted that without the 2022 budget government cannot pay salaried government workers.

He added that the action of the minority shows that they do not have Ghanaians at heart and that they do not care about thea welfare of Ghanaians.

“ If you see any member of the NDC jubilating over the supposed rejection of the 2022 budget, it means that they are punishing teachers as well as students. The rejection of the 2022 budget means nurses and doctors will not be paid and the usual strike season will begin. The current Minority in Parliament does not care about the general public,” Kwame Baffoe Abronye told Kaakyire Ofori Ayim.

He accused the NDC of deliberately rejecting budget for their selfish gains.
