Mother’s Day celebrations turned tragic at Kokoben near Adankwame on the Barekese Road in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region after a vehicle knocked down three pedestrians, killing two instantly and leaving one person injured.
The victims, believed to be from northern Ghana, were reportedly walking along the roadside when the speeding vehicle struck them.
Two of the pedestrians died on the spot, while the third victim was rushed to a nearby health facility and is currently receiving treatment.
According to an eyewitness, Mr. Morga Annor, the driver failed to stop after the incident and fled the scene immediately.
Speaking to Atinka News reporter Obofo Michael, the eyewitness described the incident as shocking and heartbreaking.
Police have since launched investigations into the accident and are working to identify both the driver and the vehicle involved.
Residents in the area described the incident as devastating, especially as families across the country marked Mother’s Day celebrations.
