MTN Ghana CFO Urges Women Entrepreneurs to Embrace E-Commerce and Digital Skills

Chief Finance Officer of MTN Ghana, Antoinette Kwofie, has urged women-led businesses in Ghana to fully embrace e-commerce and build their digital skills to grow and compete globally.

Speaking at the maiden edition of the AWLO Ghana Impact Dinner held on April 27 at Fiesta Residences in Cantonments, Antoinette highlighted a gap between the use of social media and actual e-commerce platforms by women entrepreneurs.

“While about 60% of women-led businesses use WhatsApp and Instagram for sales, only 25% take advantage of e-commerce platforms.

That’s a missed opportunity for scale,” she noted during a panel discussion.

Antoinette pointed out that fears over online fraud discourage many women from adopting digital tools.

She encouraged them to use secure payment systems, embed payment links on websites, and take advantage of global e-commerce platforms to reach more customers.

She also emphasized the need for improved financial literacy and digital training, noting that several organizations offer support in these areas.

“If women entrepreneurs invest in understanding digital platforms, they can boost their market reach and grow significantly,” she added.

The event, themed “Strutting into Global Markets: Utilising Traditional & Venture Capital Finance for Business Leverage,” brought together entrepreneurs and industry leaders to explore financing, trade, and business growth strategies.

AWLO (African Women in Leadership Organisation) is a nonprofit committed to empowering African women through leadership development, mentoring, and training since its founding in 2009.
