The Ghana Police Administration has arrested three persons in connection with the murder of a Legal Practitioner, Richard Badombia.

Lawyer Richard Badombia was shot dead by some suspected armed robbers at Jirapa on Saturday, on May, 28 2022.

According to a Police report, “on May, 28 2022, Michael Badombia, accompanied by Gloria Badombia and Hilarious Badombia all of same address went to the Banda Nkwanta Police Post to report that they were on board a Hyundai Accent saloon car with registration number GN 9890-17, driven by Richard Badombia, now deceased together with a “Bull-Dog”, travelling from Accra to Jirapa.”

But on reaching a section of the road between Banda Nkwanta and Nuoyiri communities, on the Bole-Bamboi highway, three armed men emerged from the bush and signalled them to stop and while slowing down, one of the armed men asked them if they were Policemen and immediately shot at Richard Badombia.

Reacting to this, the Ghana Bar Association expressed concern about the upsurge in armed robbery and other violent crimes in the country.
It implored the relevant security agencies to carry out swift and thorough investigations of the incident in order to identify the perpetrators of this heinous crime and make them face the full rigours of the law.

Police response
In response, the Ghana Police Service stated that, “We wish to assure the public that there is no upsurge in crime. The Service is on top of the security situation in the country and remains committed to its crime fighting efforts.”

It added that, ” We fight crime every day and treat every crime with the same urgency and same professional attitude and we regret the loss of every life.”

Meanwhile, the Police explained that as soon as the incident occurred, it has been working around the clock as it does on all such cases, to get to the bottom of it and get the perpetrators arrested and brought to justice.

It however stated that, “In line with standard operating procedure, we immediately commenced an investigation into the incident, launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, and issued a statement to that effect on Saturday, May 28, 2022. In addition, the Inspector-General of Police and the Regional Police Commander, Savanna Region, have been in touch with the bereaved family to commiserate with them and assure them of a thorough investigation into the case.”

The Police made it known that, “Three persons have so far been arrested in connection with the case and are being interrogated. We will put out further details when it is possible to do so without jeopardising the ongoing investigation.”

The Police noted that in recent times, it has deployed various strategic crime prevention and control interventions to counter violent crime, including armed robbery in the country.

It said Special anti-robbery task forces have been deployed to locations that were identified as crime-prone.

It also noted that a holistic community policing programme has been implemented across the country, which involves the top echelon of the Service, as well as Regional, Divisional and District Police Commanders travelling across the country to educate the public on crime prevention, deepen thew security consciousness and gather intelligence to inform police operations.

“We, therefore, urge the public, including all special-interest groups, to be circumspect in their commentary on this matter and rather support the police to find a quick resolution to the case. We wish to assure the public that we remain focused and committed to fighting crime in the country,” it added.
