Lawyer and managing partner at Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah, Ace Ankomah, has revealed that his faith was questioned when he said in 2021 that Ghana was a secular state.

In October 2021, Lawyer Ace Ankomah stated that despite the Constitution’s promotion of religious plurality, its secular state demands that should a religious sect or leader promote, share or create messages that are injurious to the statehood of the country, or disturb social cohesion, the full rigours of the law shall descend on the person.

He added that the Constitution safeguards the secularity of the country while promoting religious plurality

“If you look through our Constitution the freedom to religion is upheld several times, but there are also clear limitations that they will not allow you even on a religious platform to propagate a theory or principle against the statehood of Ghana,” Ace Ankomah said in an interview.

Speaking at the 5th Anniversary Celebrations of Kingdom Equip Network, on Thursday July 14, 2022, lawyer Ace Ankomah revealed how he came under scrutiny when he said in an interview that Ghana was not a Christian State.

According to Ace Ankomah, he was surprised at the backlash he received as he thought Ghanaians were aware Ghana had always been a secular state.

“I was surprised when I was chastised for saying Ghana is a secular state. I thought everybody knew. My faith was questioned. I got attacked. I was insulted and I was surprised,” he added.
