Nana Kwame Ampadu to be given state burial

There is going to be a state burial for the legendary musician, Nana Kwame Ampadu.

The veteran musician died on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. aged 76.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has decided to honour Nana Ampadu with the state burial.

The Director of Communication at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin made this known at press briefing at the Jubilee House Thursday morning.

A former General Secretary of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Nana Kwame Ampadu born Patrick Kwame Ampadu was the founder of the famous African Brothers Band, and rose to national prominence in 1967 with his song Ebi Te Yie.

The veteran musician was admired as a master lyricist for great compositions including Getty, Oman Bo Adwo, Kofi Nkrabea, Yaw Berko, Obra, Agartha and Obi Benya Wo.

Ampadu’s career saw him travel around the world and in 2015, the he was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 16th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. In 2017, he was among five Highlife artistes honoured at the MUSIGA Grand Ball where he received a plaque and a cash prize.

Nana Ampadu was a mentor to several musicians including Sam Derchie, Teacher Boateng, Nanaba Amoako, Senior Eddie Donkor and Prince Osei Kofi. More recently, he worked with top artistes including rapper Sarkodie.

His performance, especially thrilled the audience, keeping them on their feet till he left the stage.

His appearance on the stage was one of the few surprises the organisers of the show has for the audience.

After performing his hit tracks, Lil win endorsed Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited’s (TPL) Lufart, the best selling anti-Malaria drug in West Africa, produced by Entrance Pharmaceuticals and Research Centre, here in Ghana.

All contestants also hit the stage to thrill their fans after Lil Win’s performance.
