NDC elections: Resistance of vote buying cause of mayhem- Anyidoho

Mr. Koku Anyidoho, the Chief Executive Officer of the Atta Mills Institute, says the violence that erupted at the just-ended National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth and Women Congress at Cape Coast over the weekend, was as a result of resistance to vote buying.

While the election proceedings were ongoing at the Congress, two rival groups violently clashed, throwing stones, blocks, sticks, clubs, and chairs, among others, causing injury to three persons and destruction to property.

The Police are currently on a manhunt for over sixteen persons following violent disturbances during the congress.

Dr. Hanna Louisa Bissiw and George Opare Addo retained their positions as the National Women’s Organiser and National Youth Organiser respectively of the party.

Dr. Bissiw polled 433 votes to beat her closest contender, Margaret Ansei who obtained 362 votes of the total valid ballot cast.

Reacting to the issue on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, the Chief Executive Officer of the Atta Mills Institute, Mr Koku Anyidoho said the resistance from one side in order to prevent the other side from rigging the elections though vote buying caused the disturbances.

Koku Anyidoho, who described the ‘resistance’ as the spirit of revolution, added that the results of the elections on Saturday give him hope.

“The disturbances were caused by one side’s resistance to prevent the other side from rigging the elections through vote buying.” But that is the spirit of revolution, and I am happy. Like I said in a tweet over the weekend, the results of the elections on Saturday give me hope and give a lot of us more hope. “We will not take money in exchange for our soul; that is what happened on Saturday,” he added.
