Nigerian Chef, Hilda Baci, Has Finished Her World Record-Breaking Jolof Competition

Cookathon success catapulted Hilda Baci to fame, and now this?… Nigeria and Africa could not be prouder of such tremendous achievements. Hilda Baci completed her Guinness World Record attempt for cooking the largest pot of jollof rice on September 13, 2025. The event, dubbed the “Gino World Jollof Festival,” was held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria, on Friday, 12th September 2025.

Lagos came alive over the weekend as Nigerian chef Hilda Baci once again showcased her culinary prowess by cooking an astonishing 4,000 kilograms of basmati rice, about 200 bags, in a specially built six-meter-wide pot with Gino serving as the event’s sponsor. This collaboration showcased Nigerian cuisine and culture. Gino’s involvement added a brand boost to the festival.

The historic cooking event featured 500 cartons of tomato paste, 750 kilograms of cooking oil, and 600 kilograms of onions. At the end of the marathon effort, more than 30,000 people enjoyed takeaway packs of jollof rice, while the remaining food was distributed to residents in nearby suburbs.

Although the giant pot cracked slightly during the weighing process, the hitch did little to dampen the success of the occasion. Music filled the air as popular musicians entertained the crowd, turning the atmosphere into a festival of food and culture.

The event drew not only food lovers but also government officials, celebrities, and community leaders, underlining the significance of Baci’s achievement. Social media erupted with congratulatory messages, with many hailing her as a culinary ambassador. Some even drew lighthearted comparisons between her and Chef Dammy, the Ekiti-based cook who went viral in 2023 with her own cook-a-thon attempt.

For Hilda Baci, the record-breaking feat was about more than just numbers it was a celebration of Nigerian cuisine and culture in a grand style.
