A significant traditional milestone was marked on Saturday, March 21, 2026, as Nii Shika Sowah Gborbilor II, Chief and Head of Okatabanman–West, formally swore allegiance to the Agbawe Kplenwe Family in a ceremony rich in culture, unity, and ancestral reverence.
The colourful event drew elders, traditional leaders, youth groups, and distinguished guests from neighbouring communities, underscoring the importance of unity and the preservation of customary authority. The ceremony featured traditional rites, libation, drumming, and the invocation of ancestors to witness and bless the occasion.
Nii Shika Sowah Gborbilor II was enstooled on May 5, 2010, by elders of the Agbawe Kplenwe family, led by the late Nii Okpoti Kodia and Nii Sowah Okataban II. His stool name symbolises the reincarnation of his great ancestor, Nii Sowah Gborbilor I, founder of Adentan.
In his address, the chief reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the customs, values, and authority of the Agbawe Kplenwe family. He also stressed the need for unity among the people of Okatabanman and Adentan, pledging to work towards the development, stability, and progress of the community under the leadership of Nii Adjie Kplen.
“This allegiance is not merely symbolic. It is a solemn commitment to honour our traditions, strengthen our bonds, and ensure that our people move forward together in peace and prosperity,” he stated.
The head of the Agbawe Kplenwe family welcomed the pledge and expressed confidence in the chief’s leadership, highlighting the importance of collaboration among traditional authorities in addressing modern challenges while preserving cultural heritage.
The ceremony concluded with vibrant celebrations, including traditional music, dance, and communal feasting, reflecting the unity and shared vision of the people.
Observers described the occasion as a defining moment that is expected to strengthen ties within the traditional council and promote harmony, identity, and development in the community.
