NPP Chair threatens to protest should gov’t compensate Menzgold clients

New Juaben North NPP Chair, Kwadwo Boateng-Agyemang, says he will embark on a demonstration should the government reimburse Menzgold Customers.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) earlier issued a statement to Menzgold Ghana Company asking them to stop trading in gold without license.

In a letter dated September 7, SEC said it has thoroughly investigated the activities of Menzgold and has found that, it does not have the license to trade in gold collectibles from the public – and that the firm has contravened Act 929.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) also secured a court order to freeze all landed properties and vehicles belonging to the embattled Chief Executive Officer of Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah, alias NAM 1.

The landed properties include Menzgold Ghana Limited, Menzgold Office Complex, Zylofon Art Complex, Brew Marketing Consult, Star Mad. Football Club, Zylofon Music and Media Company Limited, Brew Energy Company Limited and G. Tech Automobile Service.

There have been concerns as on why government would use state funds to refund monies of clients who invested in the embattled gold firm, Menzgold or otherwise.

But Speaking on Accra based Asempa Fm, New Juaben North NPP Chair, Kwadwo Boateng-Agyemang argued that the customers of MenzGold were lured onto the scheme because it promised mouthwatering returns.

He added that these same customers who were at the beck and call of MenzGold attacked SEC and BoG when it issued warning threats against Menzgold.

‘’I will lead a massive demonstration against the president. I am telling the president today as his constituency chairman, New Juaben North that should he go ahead and pay any money to the Menzgold customers, I will lead a massive demonstration against him. In trading principles, the reason why, you couldn’t hold him responsible for security is that at a particular point in time there was no way you could identify any malfeasance or anything that connected criminal activities…”, he added.
