Nsawam prison inmates call for Support

Authorities and inmates of the Nsawam  Prisons are calling on Government and Philantropists  to assist them with basic medical  supplies. According to them, irregualar   medical supplies  from government is one of the major challenges facing them as various appeals made to   government  has fallen on deaf ears.

The appeal was  made on Thursday ,  when the Trustees of the  Samuel Amo Tobin Foundation donated some assorted  drugs to some Prisons in Ghana including ;Nsawam , Awutu Camp Prisons  and the  Pantang Hospital to mark the  world International charity day.

The Medical Superintent of the Nsawam Medium Security Clinic, DSP Dr Lawrence Kofi Acheampong , speaking to  Atinka fm confirmed that, the Nsawam prisons  faces lot of challenges such as an  ambulance to transport inmate patients and also ensential drugs to administer to patients  who become critically ill . He said sometimes some of the inmates lose their lives through such occurences .

He therefore appealed to the  Government  to take a critical  look at the Country's  prisons by decongesting them as the situation is making life unbearable  for  the inmates who sometimes die before their time .

He also described  the Ghc1.80  feeding grant from Government  which is to  provide   3 square meals per day  to each inmate as woefully inadequate and therefore called on government  to take a look at it for a possible review.

some of the inmates in their  interactions  also appealed for logistical support forv their recreational activites ,according to them their  only source of happiness is through the engagement of  football activities  but were lacking football kits and balls and therefore  appealled   to corporate organisations and individuals to come to their aid to   enable them organize league  matches at the prisons.
