Nurse donates to Weija Leprosarium on birthday, encourages public to do same

An Individual, a nurse at the International Maritime Hospital, Suzzy Osafo Darko, as part of her birthday celebration has presented assorted items to the Weija Leprosarium.

The items included bags of rice, tubers of yam, oil, non-alcoholic beverages, fruits, tomato paste, onions, gari, sugar, cartons of milk, Milo, crates of eggs, bags of sachet and bottle water, cartons of drinks and biscuits.

Other items were washing powder, powerzone, detol, plasters, bandages and toilet rolls.

Also known as Adwoa Freshy, the donor was accompanied by her mother, sibling, other family members and friends to celebrate her day with inmates of the Weija Leprosarium. 

At a short ceremony, a birthday cake was cut, while cooked meals, including cup cakes and drinks were shared amongst all those who were present at the ceremony. 

After presenting the items, Adwoa Freshy said she had taken it upon herself to embark on charity projects every two years on her birthday in order to assist the poor and needy.

"There are times in everyone's life when the person looks within herself and wish to do something for the happiness and satisfaction of soul.
I also had such moment and then a thought of doing something for the good course evolved in me. I wanted to do something selflessly for someone and as well, help the society in order to satisfy my soul and give me peace," she stated.

According to her, although she did not have that much, she felt she had to help others with what she had, encouraging other individuals to help the needy.

"Government may provide support for them but that is not enough. In my view, they need more care, therefore every individual or corporate organisations are encouraged to support them.
Rev.Fr. Andrews Campbell has been doing a great job too and that is very laudable," she said. 

"It is my birthday and I am glad to share my joy with the inmates of weija Leprosarium. I am grateful to my sponsors and all those who made this possible.God bless us all," she added.

Meanwhile, the Prefect for the Weija Leprosarium, Madame Gladys Adwoa Adobea thanked the donor and prayed for more blessings for her.

She lauded Rev.Fr. Campbell, the Chairperson of the Leper's Aid Committee, for ensuring their basic needs were always provided.

A staff at the Weija Leprosarium, Esther Geh also called on the public to support the organisation financially. 

According to her, the hospital bills of the inmates kept increasing, adding that they also needed financial support to purchase electricity credits since they used prepaid meter.
