“Our system is safe” – Ghana Link Defends Cargo Tracking System After Security Officer’s Claim

Ghana Link

Ghana Link Network Services Ltd has defended the reliability of Ghana’s Electronic Cargo Tracking (E-Tracking) system after a National Security officer in Kumasi publicly questioned its credibility.

The comments were made during the inspection of a consignment under Bill of Entry number 80525271236. Ghana Link, which operates the system under the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS), says the remarks are inaccurate and misleading.

The company explained that all tracking devices were installed under Customs supervision, and all changes to the cargo’s route and status were approved through official channels. A rope-cut alert raised by the system on May 26 was automatically triggered and investigated, proving that the technology worked as designed.

Ghana Link also reported an incident on May 16 where their officer was briefly detained by National Security operatives for refusing to unlock a tracking device without proper authorization. The officer was later released.

“Our system is robust, secure, and fully compliant with Customs regulations,” said Norvan Acquah-Hayford, Head of Public Relations at Ghana Link. “There was no tracking failure, and our staff acted professionally throughout.”

The company urged better cooperation among agencies and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, security, and improving Ghana’s cargo monitoring system.
