Presidential staffer faces suspension for denigrating NPP foot soldiers

Presidential staffer, Dr. Louise Carol Serwaa Donkor, faces one-month suspension for denigrating foot soldiers of the ruling party.

Dr. Donkor suggested in a recent Facebook post that, she couldn’t reason with foot soldiers because of their level of thinking.

The comment did not go down well with some NPP sympathizers who called for her head.

The presidential staffer was later forced to apologize following widespread condemnation among party foot soldiers.

However, a statement from the office of the Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare, directed  Mr Eugene Owusu, Special Advisor to the President on SDG’s, to suspend  Dr. Donkor  for one month.

Lopetegui has signed a three-year deal with Madrid after two years with the national side, who he has guided to the World Cup in impressive fashion.

The timing of the announcement is unexpected, given that Spain kick off their tournament on Friday when they face Portugal in Sochi.

Mahama is a 'problem' to NDC – Party executive

0

Mr Stephen Ashitey-Adjei, an outspoken executive member of the Tema East wing of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has branded former President John Mahama as a ‘problem’ to the party.

“Mr Mahama is the reason why our Founder has one of his legs in the party and another out, he is the reason many party executives are still bitter, he is the reason many supporters of the party are contemplating not voting for the NDC and if he has respect and love for the party, he must stop worrying us.”

Mr Ashitey-Adjei who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency on their preparation towards electing a Presidential candidate for the 2020 elections pointed out that the former President was at the moment, the main source of conflict and disunity in the party.

The Tema East executive member, who is popularly known as Moshake explained that the former President’s regional Unity Walks had further polarised the party as they were in contravention with the Kwesi Botchwey report.

“The Botchwey report had recommended that the NDC leadership engage its support base and appease them, not the so-called unity walks that Mr. Mahama and his camp organised to shore up support for himself. Those unity walks had forced the council of elders to end intended tours to engage the party’s support base,” Moshake said.

He also pointed out that Mr Mahama’s posturing was preventing some people who wanted to defect from the ruling NPP to the NDC.

Moshake who has long made it clear that he was in support of Mr Alban Bagbin maintained that the NDC would be shooting itself in its own foot if it elected former President John Mahama flagbearer again because of high perception among Ghanaian voters that Mahama’s administration was corrupt.

Aside the external repulsion of Mahama, he said the former President was a divisive figure within the party and that his flagbearership of the NDC would lead to many within the party, including the party’s Founder, former President Jerry John Rawlings, campaigning against the NDC.

“Party true-bloods like Dr. Tony Aidoo, Col (Rtd) Gbevlo Lartey, and many others may not come on board if Mahama is elected flagbearerer and it is because when Mahama was President, he ignored hardworking party members who had toiled for the party and rewarded outsiders with appointments. So Gbevlo for instance was removed for Yaw Donkor,” Moshake said.

7,000 Ghanaians to be deported from USA

0

The United States ambassador to Ghana, Robert P. Jackson has disclosed that 7,000 Ghanaians are in the process of being deported from the United States of America (USA) for various immigration offences.

He said: "First, we are talking about 7,000, not 60,000 Ghanaians who are in various stages of being deported from the United States and on that issue just as we have a responsibility to patrol our borders, countries around the world have a responsibility to issue travel documents to their citizens so that they can return to those countries".

It will be recalled that on March 14, 2018, 86 Ghanaians were deported from the United States of America to Ghana.

During an address at an Institute of Economic Affairs discussion on United States-Africa Relations Monday (June 11, 2018) in Accra, Ambassador Jackson stressed the need for all countries to control their borders.

They were reportedly arrested at different states for various immigration offences such abuse of the terms of their visas and engaging in illegal employment. The deportees, all males, came on a chartered flight.

1,968 Ghanaians deported in 2016
Statistics from the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) revealed that a total of 1,968 Ghanaians who travelled to various countries around the world were either deported or refused entry to the country they were travelling to.

The breakdown of the figure shows that 1,245 Ghanaians were refused entry into various destinations abroad for failing to meet their respective entry conditions in 2016.

This means the refusal of entry into various destinations of Ghanaians shot up by 50.5% from the 827 figure recorded in 2015.

Reasons for refusal of entry include the traveller failing to provide clear information on where the individual is going, misbehaviour towards immigration officer, not having sufficient funds, information provided at entry point contradicts information provided on application form submitted to the embassy to get the visa, and possessing a fake visa.

It is explained that visa offers partial clearance and that immigration officers have the discretion to grant or deny travellers entry.

Snapchat now lets you delete unopened sent messages

0

Snapchat will now let users delete sent messages before they’re opened, as reported by 9to5Mac. The company plans to roll the feature out to some people starting today, and everyone should have it within the next few weeks.

To delete a sent message, simply press and hold on the media (text, audio, photo, etc.) you’d like to get rid of and a pop-up will appear asking if you’d like to delete. Just tap, and the content in question will disappear. The person you sent the message to will still get a notification that something was sent to them and deleted, but as long as it was never opened in the first place, they won’t know what it was.

Snap has also announced that it is expanding the availability of its second-generation Spectacles to Amazon. Compared to the original product, the newer sunglasses are slimmer, can take photos, and are water resistant. The second-gen Spectacles launched exclusively on Spectacles.com, but they should be available to buy from Amazon sometime today, joining the older model which is also available from the online retailer.

If you want to grab a pair, Snapchat’s new Spectacles are priced at $149.99 in the US and are offered in the same three colors you can get from Snap directly: onyx moonlight, sapphire twilight, and ruby daybreak.

6 ways to be the best girlfriend he’s ever had

0

It’s not unusual for girls to want to be the best girlfriend ever. After all we see it in every single movie. There’s no middle ground. You’re either the best or the worst. If you complain – you’re the worst. If you cook and clean while looking hot in your lingerie – you’re the best. Those stereotypes are ridiculous, and it’s time to break them. There’s really no need trying to juggle gym every day, work, chores and tending to your boyfriend’s every whim. In fact, men aren’t that difficult or demanding. They want the same things we want. So here’s a couple of things you should keep in mind and I guarantee they’ll make your boyfriend think you’re the bee’s knees.

1. Be Direct

No one really wants to walk around on eggshells around a passive aggressive girlfriend, so just stop it. Tell him what’s wrong and what’s bothering you right away. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to resolve problems when he doesn’t have to resort to ancient magic and mind reading. That stuff is hard for men, they’re not versed in ancient scripts, give him a break.

2. Appreciate The Little Things
Don’t take little gifts and flowers for granted. Yes, I know you’re a princess and you deserve to be worshipped every day. He probably knows it too. But we live in a modern world, so he can’t really sing serenades under your balcony or show up on a white horse at your door every day. So take his meagre offerings for what they are, a little token of love and attention. He’s doing his best.

3. Let Him Breathe

Your advice is the best and you always know the best way to do everything. You’re also fun to be around and your beauty shines on people around you making their day better. In fact, people should be thankful you even chose to spend time with them. But sometimes people get sunburn just from looking at you. So give him his alone time, so he can recuperate and experience how awful life is when you’re not there all the time.

4. Be Independent

Remember you’re a strong independent woman who doesn’t need a man, so behave like one. Don’t dedicate all of your precious time to your boyfriend. You have hobbies and friends and family and work, those things require your time and presence too. Tend to that. Also, SPAs are a thing, and they’re way more fun with girlfriends then with those icky boys.

5. Look Fierce

Don’t waste your best years hanging around in sweatpants and with a messy bun, chewing on a piece of pizza. Showcase your best features and slay the day. I’m not saying you should be wearing stilettos and ball gowns every day, unless you want to, but girl, you gotta look cute while you can. It’ll only get harder with time, so look fierce while it’s easy.

6. Let Him Be Your Prince

I’m aware that you’re perfectly capable of taking care of yourself. You can carry that mega heavy bag of groceries, and you have no trouble pushing that sofa to the other side of the room. Don’t even get me started on how easy it is to open doors for yourself. But how you do expect your peasant boyfriend to act like a Prince Charming if you don’t let him? Let him do these things for you, let him be the manly man and let him know how happy he makes you.

Joshua Alabi writes: History provides the solution guide to GFA crisis

0

The current state of GFA affairs calls for drastic reforms, just as it happened in 1994.

After a poor showing in Tunisia, leading to an early exit of the star-studed Black Stars from the African Cup of Nations, Ghanaians were outraged. And as a football nation, the leadership of football needed to act, and swiftly. A telephone conference with my Chairman and other leading members of GHALCA was held.

Soon after that, in my capacity as the Ag. General Secretary of GHALCA, I wrote to summon a General Meeting of members. That meeting found solutions to the problems of football management in this country; and the proposals finally led to the introduction of Club Representatives into the Five Member Management Board of the GFA, to help manage our game.

Our position was simple: that government cannot continue to solely manage football in this country by appointing all the members of the Management Board of the GFA. After series of meetings, government accepted the proposals of GHALCA.

The reforms saw a better management of football, culminating into the formation of a new Black Stars team, which became the first to qualify for the 1996 African Cup of Nations tournament in South Africa.

The Abedi-Pele-captained side won the hearts of Ghanaians, including many on the continent, during the football festival in South Africa; until the agenda "Host and Win At All Cost" of the Late President Nelson Mandela worked against us, leading to our defeat in the semi finals. As the GFA Member responsible for the Black Stars together with my Chairman Nana Sam Brew Butler, we led the team back home and gave our accounts to the Government, the Executive Council of the GFA and GHALCA.

Thoughtful reforms in the management of the Association is necessary at a time such as this. Proactive and pragmatic reforms are needed, in order to achieve the excellent heights we set for ourselves as ofspring from Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

The extent of damage revealed in the exposè shown in the premiered sting operations video by Tiger-I, calls for drastic reforms which will tighten the loose ends of the systems and regulations.

As a country, leadership can choose to make it easier on ourselves or otherwise by starting such reforms now, or hope to do so later, perhaps in months. Leadership must however take a definitive decision on this, and do so urgently. An independent body must be formed to meet with the leadership of GHALCA to fashion out some proposals for discussion and adoption at Congress. This would convince FIFA not to impose any ban and would fast track the process to a resolution. Any resolution must continue to internationalize our football and not to make it only local, since it is the aspiration of every player to play international football, and Ghanaians would like to see our teams also on the international stage.

Congress of the GFA which is a meeting of all stakeholders must admit to shortcomings inherent in the current constitution, and table proposals to correct them. A new constitution which encourages checks and balances, gives autonomy to the PLB, fast tracks resolution of disputes within hours, and protects our continental or international representatives is the way to go.

The results from such measures will lead to rapid progress. That new constitution will restore confidence in the game; and guarantee fair play. Should it be done well, it shall lead to producing a dazzling Ghanaian team ready to conquer Africa in the next few years.
We need solutions."

Marine insurance performing poorly in Ghana – Experts say

0

The marine industry has been identified as one of the abysmally performing sector in terms of penetration into the insurance sector. This, experts say is the result of dwindling knowledge about marine business and its correlation with marine insurance.

This was disclosed at an ongoing marine training and marine insurance workshop for players in the industry at Big-Ada in the Greater Accra Region.

The National Insurance Commission with support from GIZ organized the week-long workshop with consultants and experts to deliberate on the importance of marine insurance to the marine industry.

President for the Ghana Insurers Association, Aretha Duku, speaking to Atinka News, said motor insurance comes to mind at the mention of the kinds of insurance with scanty or no knowledge on marine insurance. She said elsewhere, there is a correlation between marine business and marine itself in terms of imports, but unfortunately, the situation is the reverse here in Ghana.

Aretha Duku, buttressing her point with figures, said in 2007, total imports into Ghana was 8 billion dollars with an expected premium of 16.2 million dollars. Unfortunately, only 9.95 dollars was realized. The figures imply a decline in marine insurance as import increases which should have been the other way round.
The GIA president noted that it is for such reasons that the programme was organized to whip up knowledge of marine insurance in the marine industry.

The Commissioner of Insurance, Justice Ofori on his part, attributed the development partly to the GRA one percent penalty slapped on players in the marine industry. He was optimistic of timely approval of the new Insurance Bill which is being worked to ensuring that all goods imported purchase insurance cover. Mr. Ofori appealed to Insurers to work out easy to understand and moderate packages for small-scale industry, especially local fishermen to make it simple and easier for access.

The head of Financial System Development of GIZ, Jocken Ramcke observed that though regulations and laws are good, over-regulation has been the bane to boosting the insurance sector in other jurisdictions.

The workshop is being patronized by insurance experts and players in the industry envisaged changing the negative trend afterward.

Court places 10-day injunction on GFA activities

0

The High Court has placed a 10-day ban on all activities of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Per the ruling, the GFA nor its officials can engage in official duties at the GFA.

The GFA within the 10-day ban can neither organize football matches nor appointment and election of officials and other official duties.

In her argument during proceedings in the court,  Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo, mentioned that the GFA was being used for unlawful purposes and that the ban is in the public interest.

This action comes after an exposé by ace investigative Journalist, Ana Aremeyaw Anas on Ghana Football.

GFA President Kwasi Nyantakyi, some GFA officials and about 100 referees have been implicated in the video in different acts of corruption including match-fixing deals.
