“I am not a liar" – Akufo-Addo tells critics

0

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Friday, 8th June, 2018, cut the sod for the construction of the 24.3km Kojina-Chirano-Akoti Road in the Bibiani/Anhwiaso/Bekwai constituency in the Western Region.

According to President Akufo-Addo, in the run-up to the 2016 elections, he decried the poor nature of the roads not only in the Western Region, but across the country, and assured that if he won the elections, he would do something about them.

“Indeed, the majority of the country’s resources are from the Western Region. That is why in the 2017/2018 budget, amongst others, the Kojina-Chirano road was earmarked for construction. The contractor on this road should be minded about the fact that funds have already been allocated for this project. So I will not countenance any form of delay.

The President continued, “We are expecting the road to be completed on schedule. In two years time, God willing, I am coming here to commission this road.”

President Akufo-Addo made this known on Friday, 8th June, 2018, at the commencement of his 3-day tour of the Western Region.

Addressing a mini-durbar of chiefs at Kojina, the venue for the cutting of the sod, the President added that in addition to the development of infrastructure , he outlined a number of policies and programmes that he would implement if he won the 2016 election.

“However, I was labelled a liar by my opponents, and that I could not do them. They said Free SHS was not possible, the revival of the National Health Insurance Scheme was not feasible, and said the restoration of the teacher and nursing trainee allowances was a hoax. Everything I said was labelled a lie,” he added.

The last 17 months, the President stressed, have demonstrated that “I am not a liar. You are witnessing that I am fulfilling all these promises once by one. Free SHS is a reality and has come to stay. Teacher and nursing trainee allowances have been restored. All other promises will be fulfilled before the end of my tenure of office.”

Touching on the request by the Omanhene of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area for the lifting of the ban on small scale mining, President Akufo-Addo noted that the temporary ban on small scale mining was necessitated by the activities of illegal miners who were destroying the country’s vegetation and water bodies.

“We put in place the ban to ensure that we put in place policies to guide and streamline the activities of small-scale mining in the country. It is not my intention that the ban will be there forever and ever. Very soon you will hear something positive from me in this regard,” the President added.

First Google Pixel 3 XL photo leak clearly shows a notch

0

You're looking at what may be the first Google Pixel 3 XL photo leak, and it has good news or bad news, depending your thoughts on iPhone X-like displays.

There's clearly a notch cutout at the top of the display, according to a pair of photos posted to XDA Developers. For many people, the controversial notch is bad news.

But the notch effect is good news if you want a bigger all-screen display from the Pixel 3 XL. The bezels around the Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 2 were certainly larger.

Many Android phones (LG G7 ThinQ, OnePlus 6, and Asus Zenfone 5) are following the notch trend first seen in the Essential Phone (RIP) and popularized by iPhone X.

It's all in an effort to get an extra half-inch of screen space, but keep the top speaker and front-facing camera in place.

There's enough space at the top for two front-facing cameras, as rumored last week, but we can't make out where the Pixel 3 XL puts its bottom front-facing speakers that we liked about last year's phone.

Curiously, previous leaks for the normal-sized Pixel 3 show a phone with no notch whatsoever, and there may be a cheap Pixel 3 in the works with a similar look, too.

This appears to be the first leaked photo of a Pixel 3 XL, however, we've seen what may be the phone's front glass before, and it showed a very similar notch.

It should be noted that today's forum post leak does state it's a prototype phone. Likewise, the specs splashed across the screen may be far from final.

The alleged Google Pixel 3 XL prototype has just 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The back shows a design and a single lens, both matching the Pixel 2 XL.

Google is expected to launch the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, and maybe a cheap Pixel 3 later this year, likely in October again. We're sure more notch-filled leaks will emerge between now and then.

Uber driver charged with murder in shooting of Denver passenger

A Denver-area driver with the ride-sharing service Uber who police say fatally shot a passenger in his vehicle was charged on Thursday with first-degree murder, prosecutors said.

Michael Andre Hancock, 29, who has been held without bond in the shooting death of Hyun Kim, 45, is charged with one count of murder after deliberation, the Denver District Attorney’s Office said in a written statement.

Hancock’s initial court appearance to hear the charge was set for next Tuesday. It was not clear if he had retained or been appointed legal counsel.

According to a Denver police probable cause affidavit, a motorist who came on the scene in the early morning hours of last Friday, said Hancock told him he had shot Kim after the passenger attacked him.

When police arrived, they found Kim on the floorboards of the front passenger’s seat with “apparent gunshot wounds,” the affidavit said.

A semiautomatic Ruger pistol was taken from Hancock’s waistband after he was handcuffed, police said.

Police said they found 10 spent .40-caliber cartridges on the shoulder of the highway, but have not disclosed how many bullets struck Kim. The Denver Medical Examiner’s Office said the victim died of multiple gunshot wounds.

The case has renewed criticism of San Francisco-based Uber Technologies Inc [UBER.UL], which is facing a class-action lawsuit over the company’s vetting of its contract drivers. [nL2N1SS1L0]

Uber said in a statement it was “deeply troubled” by the arrest of Hancock, who had worked for the service for almost three years, and that it was cooperating with Denver police. Uber drivers are independent contractors, not employees.

Last November, the Colorado Public Utilities Commission fined Uber $8.9 million for allowing 57 people to drive for it despite “previous felony convictions, major moving violations … and numerous instances of individuals driving with suspended, revoked or canceled driver’s licenses,” according a statement from the agency.

Uber appealed the decision and some of the counts were dropped. A proposed $4.4 million settlement is pending before an administrative law judge, said Terry Bote, a spokesman for the state’s Department of Regulatory Agencies.

Tariffs and Trump: War of words ahead of G7 summit

Leaders of the G7 group are gathering in Canada for what could be one its most acrimonious summits in years.

On the eve of the meeting, the French and Canadian leaders clashed with US President Donald Trump on the summit's key agenda – trade tariffs.

Mr Trump, expected to be the last to arrive and first to leave, has imposed steel and aluminium tariffs that have sparked reprisals from trade partners.

But the nations could also clash on the Iran nuclear deal and climate change.

The G7 summit, which groups Canada, the US, the UK, France, Italy, Japan and Germany, begins on Friday in the town of La Malbaie in Quebec.

The leaders of the nations, which represent more than 60% of global net worth, meet annually. Economics tops the agenda, although the meetings now always branch off to cover major global issues.

It was mainly France and Canada vs Donald Trump.

Although much has been made of the bonhomie between the US president and French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, the latter was pulling no punches ahead of the talks.

In a tweet, Mr Macron said if Mr Trump wanted to be isolated, the six other nations would sign their own agreement if need be "because these six countries represent values, they represent an economic market which has the weight of history behind it and which is now a true international force".

Host leader Justin Trudeau has also flirted with a "bromance" approach to Mr Trump but has appeared far more confrontational recently, particularly with the stalling of talks over the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta).

He described Mr Trump's citing of national security to defend his steel and aluminium tariffs as "laughable".

Never one to back down, Mr Trump fired off defiant tweets, accusing Mr Trudeau of being "indignant" and the European Union and Canada of erecting "massive trade tariffs and non-monetary trade barriers against the US" for years.

"Take down your tariffs and barriers or we will more than match you," he wrote.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May appeared to take a more conciliatory approach, saying she wanted the EU to act with restraint and proportion in retaliating to the US tariffs.

It is likely that Brexit, in particular trade deals following the UK's exit from the EU, will also be on her agenda.

Mr Trump will apparently be the last to arrive and the White House said he would fly out early, on Saturday morning, to head to Singapore for his landmark summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Number 12: Nana Addo diverting focus by sacking Korlebu CEO, others – Aseidu Nketia

0

General Secretary for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketia has accused the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of diversionary tactics with the sacking of some CEO’s on the day Anas was premiering his Number 12 video.

The President, yesterday June 6th 2018, sacked the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) CEO, Gifty Klenam and her deputies, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) CEO, Paul Asare Ansah and the Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transport (BOST) Company, Alfred Obeng Boateng.

In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, General Secretary for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketia explained that the action of the President was to prevent people from discussing the content of Anas’ expose.

According to Aseidu Nketia, Nana Addo and the National Security defended BOST CEO when his outfit was involved in the contaminated fuel saga. “Why has he been sacked now, that means the President lied to us”, he added.

“Everything shows that all that Kwasi Nyantakyi said in the video was true. It is obvious that the NPP uses Nyantakyi as an agent to take bribe from investors. Nyantakyi only revealed the deals and the conversations he had with members of the ruling NPP”, he said.

“Nyantakyi blowing hot air in number 12 expose “– John Boadu

0

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) was only bragging about his connections with Nana Addo and Bawumia in Anas’ video, John Boadu, the National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said.

GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has been captured in the latest investigative piece by Journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas alleging that the President and the Vice President can be bought with 5 million and three million dollars respectively.

Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, the National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu explained that Kwasi Nyantakyi only used the names of both the President and the Vice President to woo the supposed investors.

According to him, fraudsters always use names of prominent people among others to defraud innocent people.

“All of us have had our names used by people we don’t know many times. Nyantakyi was just bragging to the investors. Such a person can even say that he stays in the same house and even sleeps in the same bed with the President”, he added.
