Minister threatens to sue Atinka TV’s BB over galamsey video

Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, has threatened to file  a defamation suit against host of Atinka TV Morning Show, "Ghana Nie", Bismark Brown, for merely airing a video, which which captures illegal miners in  Ntotokrom in the Amansie west district alleging that he (regional minister) is aware of their activities."

Fuming with rage, the Regional Minister called into the Show Wednesday to threaten a lawsuit against Bismark Brown popularly known in media Circles as BB for showing  the video without his consent.

The video also captures illegal miners (galamseyers) busily plying their trade in broad daylight at Manso Ntonto of the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region even though the ban on the illegal activity is still in force.

One Iddrisu, a leader of a galamsey group, described how the Minister, local chiefs, DCEs, police chiefs have all been compromised in the fight against galamsey.

He added that they (the galamsey operators) offers “tips” to some officers of the Operation Vanguard Team, which has been tasked to fight illegal mining.

Surprisingly, the Ntonto mining site is not in the deep forest as one may think; the site is full of excavators while other earth-moving machines have been parked on the shoulders of the main road.

Nyantakyi’s arrest: Emile Short speaks

Following the directive from the Presidency Tuesday, May 22, as made known public by the Deputy Chief Staff, Abu Jinarpor that the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi be arrested by the Police for defrauding under false pretense, the whole nation has been submerged by it with varying opinions.

The President, according to Deputy Chief of Staff, Abu Jinapor, gave the directive after watching some section of the advertised Anas’ corruption video to be shown June 6. The video captures  the FA Capo soliciting money from some purported investors using the names of the President and Vice President to aid his act.

Several others including legal luminaries have questioned the President’s order and whether or not President Akufo Addo has the power legally per our laws to order Nyantakyi’s arrest or all he has to do is to lodge a formal complaint.

Another argument is whether the President per our laws can also establish a prima facie case against the FA President as said in the directive by his deputy chief of staff.

Meanwhile, former Commissioner of CHRAJ, Emile Francis Short opined that President Akufo Addo might have given the order  because he sees himself as a complainant.

“It may well be that the President sees himself as a complainant in this matter because his name was used and that is why he has taken this proactive step in asking the CID to take up the matter.”

He, however, declined to speak on the legality of the directive but maintains that since his name has been mentioned in the scandal he (Emile Short) is speculating that the order for arrest is in the capacity as a complainant.

And that defrauding by false pretense in this particular case means monies would be given to him and his Vice President.

His submission hinged on  how media men and women execute their duties without corruption during a Forum on Media and Corruption in Ghana.

The former CHRAJ boss calls for a holistic approach in fighting corruption where there would be effective public education, preventive strategies and investigation and prosecution. Therefore, the establishment of the Office of Special Prosecutor is commendable.

The passing of the RTI and Public Officers Bill as well as reviewing of the Asset Declaration regime to take away the bottlenecks in the system that breed corruption.

R Kelly sued for deliberately infecting woman with STD

Disgraced R&B singer R Kelly “knowingly” infected a 19-year-old woman with an incurable sexually transmitted disease, a new lawsuit claims.

Faith Rodgers says she was mentally, physically and verbally abused by R Kelly, who she was in a relationship with for almost a year, according to the lawsuit filed yesterday.

A representative for the singer said in April that he “categorically denies all claims and allegations” in the lawsuit.

In an emotional interview with the BBC, Faith described R Kelly’s alleged sexual misconduct.

In May 2017, Faith says R Kelly flew her to New York to attend one of his concerts. She says she received a phone call at 6am from the singer, who came to her hotel room and ordered her to take off her clothes.

She describes his behaviour towards her as “really aggressive” and says she “froze up” when R Kelly attempted to initiate sexual activity.

“I told him that I wasn’t ready for sex, that I don’t engage in sex the first time I meet somebody – that’s not who I am, that’s not what I’m comfortable with,” she says.

Faith claims the singer then shrugged his shoulders and responded that he was “at his best” when he was “wanted”.

At that point, she says she thought it had been established that she didn’t want to have sex with him.

R Kelly then began rubbing Faith’s back like he was “rubbing a countertop”, she says.

She claims he went on to initiate sex with Faith while saying “nasty [and] degrading things” to her. Faith also claims that R Kelly referred to himself as “Daddy” and called her “his little doll” during the encounter.

In recent months, R Kelly has faced numerous sexual misconduct allegations by former girlfriends.

A #MuteRKelly movement established in July 2017 calls for a boycott of the Grammy Award-winning singer’s music and concerts. The singer has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

In a statement issued in April by R Kelly’s management, he called the string of allegations – and the subsequent backlash from the Time’s Up movement – “a greedy, conscious, and malicious conspiracy to demean him, his family and the women with whom he spends his time”.

Music streaming services, including Spotify and Apple, have removed R Kelly’s songs from some of their playlists, and a petition calling for a “worldwide mute” on the singer has attracted more than 70,000 signatures.

In the interview, which is one of several with R Kelly’s alleged victims as part of a new BBC Three documentary, Faith claims that the singer forced her to perform oral sex and endure humiliating sexual encounters.

She describes one of those encounters, which she says took place at a concert.

“It was backstage and they were calling him to come on stage; he wasn’t worried about it. He pulled my pants down, bent me in front of a mirror, he had me by my neck and he just penetrated me and started having sex with me.

“It was rough. It hurt,” she says.

Faith claims she discovered that she had contracted herpes.

“I was devastated,” she says. “I was embarrassed; it’s not something that’s going to go away.

“The hardest part was coming clean to my family about everything […] I blame myself a lot.”

On other occasions, R Kelly instructed her to perform sexually while he filmed her on his iPad, she claims.

“He turned on all the lights, pulled out his iPad, and told me to get naked. He was demanding that I do stuff on camera that I wasn’t comfortable doing whatsoever.”

During their relationship, Faith says R Kelly also asked her to sign a contract that he said would offer him “protection”. She did not sign the agreement.

Faith says she was introduced to a circle of women who R Kelly described as his “family”, and who all referred to him as “Daddy”. She says they followed a series of rules set by the singer like standing up, walking to him and kissing him on the mouth whenever he entered the room.

She describes some members of R Kelly’s inner circle as “puppets” who have been brainwashed.

“He’s the master and they’re his slaves,” she says.

R Kelly was contacted about the issues raised in this interview, but BBC Three received no response.

Supreme Court declares Dasana family rightful Bimbilla rulers

Supreme Court has declared the Dasana Andani family, rightful rulers of Bimbilla following a protracted chieftancy dispute spanning 15 years.

The Wednesday morning judgment has affirmed the National House of Chief's ruling on the matter in 2014.

The court also described the claim to the throne by rival Nakpaa Naa Dawuni family as lacking merit and becomes the third institution to dismiss their claim to the Bimbilla skin.

The National House of Chiefs in 2014 dismissed an appeal against the legitimacy of the late overload of Bimbilla, Naa Andani Dasana. This decision was an affirmation of an earlier Northern Regional House of chiefs ruling in favour of the Dasana Family.

The rival family of Nakpaa Naa Dawuni, still dissatisfied headed to the Supreme Court hoping to overturn the judgement.

Bimbilla, over the last 15 years, has been engulfed in a  conflict due to this disagreement and has seen clashes that has claimed over forty lives, including women and children.

The judgement of the court read by Justice Gabriel Pwamang stated that the late Naa Andani Dasana had been lawfully enskinned as ruler of Bimbilla.

The court held that the claim by the Nakpaa Naa Dawuni family that the head of Kingmakers, Juo Naa was the only one clothed with power to determine who rules.

The court held that nominations are done by the family and decided upon by the "Kingmakers" and not only the Head of the "Kingmakers" as has been claimed.

This, the court explained, meant the nomination and enskinmemt of  Nakpaa Naa Dawuni was invalid.

The process leading to the nomination and enskinmemt  of the late Naa Andani Dasana was declared as valid and in accordance with law by the Apex court.

Today the President of the Republic of Ghana is the one who has reported Kwasi Nyantakyi to the CID, is that interference in sports?”, he added.
