According to Mr. Addai, the Headteacher of the school, the information got to him on Monday morning but is unable to confirm whether or not Joyce died through the abortion as he has not seen the doctor’s report.

The Assemblyman of the area Mr. Anane Boateng who is also a board member of the school, said the alleged boyfriend of the deceased and also a first-year student has been apprehended by the Nyinahin District Police Command.

NPP has achieved more in 16 months than NDC’s 8 years – Bawumia

The Government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has, through innovative ideas and carefully thought-through policies and programmes, achieved more in 16 months than the previous 8 years of the NDC, Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has declared.

Innovative programmes such as ‘Free Senior High School’ to remove the barrier of finance in the acquisition of Secondary education; ‘One Village One Dam’ and ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ to deal with the challenges in the agricultural sector; ‘One District One Factory’ to promote industrialisation, and the appointment of a Special Prosecutor to deal with the canker of corruption are just a few examples of the seminal initiatives of this Government, Dr Bawumia insists.

The Vice President, who was speaking at various mosques during the Eastern Region leg of his nationwide Ramadan Tour on Sunday 20th May, 2018, said the Akufo-Addo government had also done more for the Zongo community than any other government in Ghana’s history.

“We promised to pay closer attention to the developmental needs of the Zongos, and for the first time in the history of Ghana, President Nana Akufo-Addo has not only appointed a Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development Affairs, but has set up a Zongo Development Fund and set aside budgetary allocation of Ghs100 million for it. Just last week we appointed a CEO and two Deputies to run the Zongo Development Fund. This is evidence that when we make a promise we keep it,” Alhaji Dr Bawumia emphasised.

“To ensure that our children receive both English and Arabic education, about 3,000 Arabic instructors will be engaged this year” he added.

Faced with the challenge of graduate unemployment, the Akufo-Addo government again thought out of the box and has launched the Nation Builders Corps to offer the opportunity of acquiring skills and experience to 100,000 graduates this year in seven different modules, the Vice President indicated.

“At least 350 graduates will be engaged in each district and they will be on the module for three years during which they will receive training and still get paid. That is the result of critical thinking, to solve the challenges Ghana faces, not critical thinking to find ways to deprive the ordinary citizen of the benefits of being a Ghanaian, what the court described as Create, Loot and Share.

“We will not create, loot and share, that is why we have reduced electricity tariffs, 30% for industry and 17.5% for households.  That is a sign of a Government that cares about its citizens, and not one that will put its citizens through hardship while they enrich themselves.”

Mzbel feels abandoned by NDC after accident; learns her lessons

Controversial songstress, Mzbel, feels abandoned by her beloved National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The “16 years” hit maker was recently involved in an accident at the Labadi Beach in Accra.

Mzbel was spotted having fun at the beach with a friend who had just returned from America when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The sassy singer was riding a quad bike with her friend when the accident occurred.

However, no member of the NDC has visited her since the accident occurred and she feels she has been abandoned by the party she campaigned for.

Strangely, the first politician to visit her at home is the MP for the Weija, Gbawe constituency, Tina Mensah, who she (Mzbel) vigorously campaigned against in the last election.

“It's sad that I'm temporarily stuck in bed now due to a minor accident and not even a phone call or text message from any of the people I genuinely supported, to wish me well… And the amazing fact is that Honourable Tina Mensah, mother for my constituency, the woman I strongly campaigned against rather visited me yesterday when she heard about the accident,” the hip life star posted on her Facebook page Monday.

For the love of my political party NDC, I offended a lot of people, jeopardised my career and was verbally abused, but that didn't deter me to keep fighting for what I believed in.

It's sad that I'm temporarily stuck in bed now due to a minor accident and not even a phone call or text message from any of the people I genuinely supported, to wish me well… And the amazing fact is that Honourable Tina Mensah, mother for my constituency, the woman I strongly campaigned against rather visited me yesterday when she heard about the accident.

I am learning my lessons and I'd also want to appreciate madam MP for the love and care, even though we were on different sides, God bless you… You are just too real  ??*Teary Eyes*

If i had died, the story would have been different with big speeches and donations… Oh my people!

First Lady rallies support for the poor and vulnerable

0

Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the First Lady, has called for increased support for the poor and the vulnerable to make things better for them.

The church, corporate bodies and individuals, should accept to work together to create a society where the needs of the poor received priority attention.

The First Lady was speaking at a thanksgiving and mini-harvest of the Women’ Fellowship of the Manet Chapel, Accra Ridge Church.

As part of the event, the Fellowship made donations to the LEKMA Hospital, the Autism Centre and some Orphanages in and outside Accra.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo said the act of giving to charity and supporting the needy was biblical and “very pleasing to God”.

She quoted from the scriptures “Matthew 25:34-36” and said giving was a good thing to do by believers, especially, Christians – to earn a place in heaven.

“Then the King will say to those on His right hand, Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world, for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in;

I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison and you came to me.”

This, she said, “clearly gives us, what Christ requires of us as children of God. We are to extend a helping hand to those who need us.

“Indeed, it is good to pray; Jesus himself said men ought to pray and not faint and as women we know how to fight our battles on our knees.”

The First Lady point out that all Christian activities were important, “nevertheless Jesus wants us to be our brother’s keeper”.

She therefore praised the Fellowship for prioritising the care for the vulnerable in society.

“You have kept faith with the greatest commandment to love the Lord our God with all your heart and with all your soul, mind and to love your neighbour as yourself", she added.

GCB constructs six classroom block for Bomaa community

GCB Bank Limited (GCB) has completed the construction of the Bomaa Roman Catholic Junior High School in the Tano District of the Brong Ahafo Region.

The construction of the six-classroom block forms part of activities to mark the 65th anniversary of GCB Bank this year. GCB was established in May 1953.

The Choice of the Bomaa Roman Catholic JHS followed an appeal to the Bank for financial assistance towards the construction of a three classroom block for the school by the Member of Parliament for Tano North and Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, Ms Freda Prempeh.

Originally constructed in 1939, one of the blocks hosting the 184 pupils of the school was in a dilapidated state and had become a death-trap.

GCB intervened under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities towards the education sector. The Bank is also financing a similar school block at Sewuah near Donkorkrom in the Affram Plain District of the Eastern Region.

During the celebration of its 60th anniversary in 2013, GCB constructed and commissioned a modern school complex for the pupils of Fawoman D/A KG School located in the Ahafo-Ano South District of the Ashanti Region.

The construction of schools demonstrates the Bank’s commitment to CSR and the education of children as well as the country’s development.

E/R: Zongos thank Akufo-Addo for fulfilling his promises

0

Residents of three major Zongo communities in the Eastern Region have expressed their appreciation to the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the many policies introduced to improve the lives of Ghanaians, especially members of the Zongo community.

Speaking both inside and outside mosques on Sunday 20th May, 2018, elated Zongo dwellers reiterated the enormous relief these policies and programmes, especially the Free Senior High School programme and the very significant reduction in electricity tariffs, have had on their daily lives.

Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who was in the region as part of a nationwide Ramadan tour, received rousing cheers when he visited the Somanya central, Dagomba mosque in Koforidua and the central mosque in Asamankese to pray with his Muslim brethren in this holiest of months.

Speaking at the Somanya mosque, Husseini Amidu, the Zongo chief of Somanya, commended the Akufo-Addo government for its commitment to ensuring equitable distribution of the national cake through the establishment of the Zongo Development Fund, and called for a quick implementation of the fund’s programmes.

“We are also happy with government’s plans to hire many more Arabic tutors to help our children acquire both Arabic and conventional education” he added, and called for special prayers for both the President and his Vice for wisdom and strength.

Other speakers at the Dagomba mosque in Koforidua expressed gratitude for the almost 18% reduction in electricity tariffs for households, saying “now we hardly pay light bill. Thank you Nana-Bawumia government!”

Speaker after speaker at the Asamankese mosque hailed government’s decision not to increase Hajj fares this year despite an increase announced by the Saudi authorities, indicating that it was a further sign of the government’s commitment to the spiritual wellbeing of Muslims in the country.

Explaining the rationale behind some of the policies being implemented by the Nana Akufo-Addo government, Vice President Bawumia reiterated that the President is a man of his word, and the entire government was working to fulfil the pledges made to Ghanaians in the run up to the 2016 elections to implement policies and programmes tailored to make life better for the ordinary Ghanaian.

With the audience responding with “You have done it!” Vice President Bawumia enumerated a number of fulfilled promises such as the restoration of Teacher and Nursing Trainee allowances, employment creation measures such as the Nation Builders Corps and the Planting for Food and Jobs Programme, and the relative stability of the cedi against other currencies.

“This government is just 16 months in office, but we are delivering systematically on the promises we made to Ghanaians and Insha Allah, we shall continue to deliver” the Vice President pledged.

Vice President Bawumia was accompanied by a number of party and Government officials including the Eastern regional Minister, Hon Eric Kwakye Darfuor and his Deputy, Hon Joseph Tetteh; Hon Boniface Abubakar Saddique, Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development Affairs; and Mad Otiko Afisa Djaba, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

Alhaji Dr Bawumia is expected to continue his nationwide Ramadan tour this weekend.

It said the report is false and misleading and that there is no such incidence of Ebola in Ghana.

“We want to state emphatically that the report is false and misleading and that there is no such incidence of Ebola in Ghana. Ebola is a highly infectious condition such that when there is an outbreak in a community there is no way the National Health System can keep it secret from the public. The Health System is part the global community and mandated by International Health Regulation to report all such conditions if they occur,” GHS said in a statement issued Monday.

Below is the full statement:

THE NEWS EDITOR

PRESS RELEASE
FAKE NEWS ON EBOLA IN GHANA

It has come to the attention of the Ministry of Health/Ghana Health Service through the social media reports which claim that there is an outbreak of Ebola in the country and the Health Authorities are trying to suppress the information.

We want to state emphatically that the report is false and misleading and that there is no such incidence of Ebola in Ghana. Ebola is a highly infectious condition such that when there is an outbreak in a community there is no way the National Health System can keep it secret from the public. The Health System is part the global community and mandated by International Health Regulation to report all such conditions if they occur.

We want to assure the general public that since the reported outbreak in DR Congo, the surveillance system has been intensified including the Points of Entries to detect any case should it occur. We will plead with the media and the general public to be advocates of good health and allay fear and panic. We also urge all to use their platform to educate the citizenry about the disease as contained in our Alert rather than promoting fear and panic.

The latest statement of the International Health Regulation (IHR) Emergency Committee on the outbreak is of the view that the outbreak in Congo DR is a local outbreak and has not met the conditions for a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. There is therefore no restriction on trade or travel.  Countries are however encouraged to strengthen their preparedness to address any Public Health Emergency.

We want to assure Ghanaians and all persons living in Ghana that we are there to promote their welfare and safety.

 Thank you.
