The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has said Ghanaians should expect Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia back in a week time.

Dr. Bawumia left Ghana to the United Kingdom (UK) Friday January 19 for advanced medical attention after reporting of ill health.

A statement signed by the Chief Of Staff, Frema Opare Saturday January 20 said he was flown to the UK on the advice of his doctors.

Speaking to Starr FM Friday Mr Mensah-Bonsu stressed government’s position that Vice President is doing well and should be in the country in a week time.
“The Vice President really, I’ll tell you that he is okay. But, he has been asked to rest a bit. You know Ghanaians if he should come now, so many people will be trooping to his house and thus he wouldn’t have time to rest,” he told Ibrahim adding “which is why I think the doctors decided that [he should] continue to rest a bit for at least one more week or so before coming.”

Mr. Mensah-Bonsu also confirmed disclosure by Legal practitioner and influential figure in the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko that the Vice President was not on admission at a health facility in the UK contradicting social media reports.

“No. No I mean it [his condition] is not a hospital condition I will tell you,” he said

Son of former Ivorian president  Laurent Gbagbo  jailed for 'fake news'

0

Michel Gbagbo, the son of Ivory Coast's former president Laurent Gbagbo, has been sentenced to six months in jail and ordered to pay a fine of $950 (£668) for "complicity in disclosing false news", his lawyer said.

It relates to comments Mr Gbagbo made to a news website in May 2016. At the time he claimed "250 people are still in prison" following the country's political crisis in 2010-11 when his father refused to step down from power and concede defeat by his rival, Alassane Ouattara.

Michel Gbagbo also said at the time that 300 other people "charged and placed under arrest since 2011" were missing.

But these claims were today ruled false by the criminal court in Abidjan, his lawyer Rodrigue Dadje confirmed.

Laurent Despas, the French director of the Koaci.com website which published the interview, was fined $18,950 (£13,339) for spreading false news, the lawyer added.

Michel Gbagbo's lawyer has said he will appeal against the sentences.

Laurent Gbagbo is on trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, accused of crimes against humanity allegedly committed during the 2010-11 political crisis.

10 tips on how to get rid of pimples naturally

0

Who likes pimples? None of us! If you’re fighting a pimple war at the moment, use the tips in this article to get rid of yours the natural way.

Pimples are mean, viscous things. They always seem to pop up at the worst possible times – before prom, before a first date, on the morning of a new job – and sometimes they just won’t budge! However, there’s a very good reason for this. Our skin tells us a lot about the state of our overall health. If you’re plagued with pimples before a stressful situation, it’s quite possible that your stress has created physical symptoms, including a pimple outbreak. Although you’re not alone (acne is super duper common), acne can be really troubling when a breakout simply won’t stop and spreads everywhere. It can affect our esteem and can prevent us from even going outdoors unless we really have to. While some people prefer to treat their pimples with over-the-counter medicine, the good news is that there are tips on how to get rid of pimples naturally. Here’s how to do it:

Lemon Juice

When life gives you lemons, what do you do? If you’re suffering from an attack of pimples, you use the lemons to clear up your skin. Lemons are amazing. They might be acidic outside your body, but once inside you they alkalise and bring you lots of great benefits. And because they contain antibacterial properties, they can help eliminate those pesky pimples. Make yourself some lemon juice and apply it to the affected area. Leave for around 15 minutes, before gently cleaning with warm water.

Ice

How does the thought of applying freezing cold ice to your face appeal to you?! If it’s currently winter where you are, the answer is probably “That’s not very appealing at all!” However, ice is a really effective and incredibly simple way of removing pimples. It tackles inflammation, swelling and redness and boosts blood circulation to the area. It also removes oil and dirt that’s accumulated, as well as tightens your pores. If ice cubes seem a bit too extreme, you can use crushed ice instead. WINNER! Plus, you won’t actually be applying the ice directly to your face. That’s just scary! Instead, you need to wrap it in a piece of cloth and then apply it to the area of your face affected with pimples – but only for a few seconds at a time.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Is there anything that apple cider vinegar can’t do? If grandma was right, the answer is Nope! Unfortunately, apple cider vinegar can’t help you pick the right lotto numbers, but it can pretty much help with everything else. How to get rid of pimples naturally? Apple side vinegar is the answer. It’s got antibacterial and anti-fungal properties that allow it to attack acne and stop it from spreading more. It’s super powerful so you should dilute it with some water before applying it. Take a small amount of apply it directly to the affected areas. From then on, you could start washing your face each day with apple cider vinegar to make sure another outbreak doesn’t happen.

Eye Drops

How to get rid of pimples naturally? Some people swear by using eye drops. This might seem like a left field choice but think about it: If eye drops can help your eyes, why can’t they help irritated skin? They can, so get to it!

Steam

Did you know that steam has a wealth of benefits for your skin? No? What about saunas?! Oooooh. Exactly. Steam is great for tackling pimples, because it opens up your pores which the lets your skin finally breathe. Excellent. And when your skin is able to breathe more freely, all that pesky bacteria, dirt and oils that has built up disappears. And when all that junk disappears, inflammation and infections go away. To steam your face off, pour hot water into a big container before bringing the steam into contact with your face. Do this for a few minutes before applying a moisturiser (make sure it’s oil-free).

Tea Tree Oil

Another good tip on how to get rid of pimples naturally is to use tea tree oil. Grandmas have a fascination with apple cider vinegar, and they also have a fascination with tea tree oil, which is rich in antibacterial properties which make it ideal for tackling pimples that refuse to go away by themselves. Tea tree oil also has soothing agents that help to reduce soreness, inflammation and redness associated with pimples. All you need to do is dip a Q-tip in the stuff before gently applying on top of each pimple.

Egg Whites

Who said egg whites are only good for eating? As well as making great face masks, egg whites are fantastic when it comes to getting rid of those nasty looking pimples. All you need to do is separate the yolk from the egg white. Take a cotton ball, dip it in the egg white and apply it to your skin affected with pimples. Pretty soon, your skin will tighten and glow. Leave the mixture on for around 15 minutes, before cleaning off with warm water.

Aspirin

If you’ve got some aspirin in the medicine cabinet, now’s the time to dig it out and make a paste by combining a mashed-up aspiring pill with water. Then, apply to your face.

Toothpaste

As it turns out, toothpaste is not just good for your teeth. It’s good for lots of things! Including pimple outbreaks. Although this is just an exceptional treatment that can be used when nothing else is available, the great thing about this remedy is that you will already have it in your house and thus can get applying it right this minute. However, it’s at its most potent when it follows the ice thing. All you need to do is do the ice thing (see above), before cleaning your teeth and applying some toothpaste over your pimples. Then, wait for 15 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water. Remember to use tooth paste and not gel.

Garlic

Another good tip on how to get rid of pimples naturally is to use garlic. Nutritionists and health experts say we should eat garlic at least once a day, because it’s so good for us. And because it contains antioxidants, antiseptic, anti fungal and antiviral properties, it’s also very useful for when it comes to combating pimples. All you need to do is chop your clove into two before rubbing it onto your pimples. Leave for a few minutes and then wash off.

Masked men terrorise Navrongo township, carry out three robberies in one night

0

Residents and business owners in Nogsenia, a suburb of the Kasena/Nankana East municipal Assembly of the Upper East Region now live in constant fear after a recent surge in robbery attacks in the township by three masked men.

In the past few days, the township has witnessed widespread vicious attacks on residents, students and business owners by three masked men on a " TVS" motorbike at different locations within the municipality.

In the most recent attack late Monday night, two shops within the vicinity of the War Memorial Hospital were attacked and robbed at gunpoint by these armed robbers who made away with mobile phones, provisions and a cash amount of about Ghc4,000.

On the same night, the armed robbers also attacked a student of the University for Development Studies, UDS at Namolo, another suburb of the Navrongo township who they had stalked from the UDS campus. According to the student (name withheld), he had to run away for his life after a fruitless battle with the machete wielding trio when he realized he had been overpowered. They left behind his huge motorbike and made away with his laptop, mobile phone, external hard drive, pen drive and lecture notes.

" I closed from school and when I headed home from Perseverance Spot I realized I was being followed by some guys on a motorbike. To me, I thought they were ordinary people also going their way. But when we got to the Namolo around the offices of the municipal assembly, they caught up with me, blocked me with their motorbike and asked me to stop. They brought out machetes and after several attempts to resist their attack, I finally jumped off my motorbike. In the process, my bag containing my laptop, mobile phone, external hard drive, pen drive, lecture notes and other documents fell off and they took it and sped off with their headlights off. I've reported to the Navrongo Police Station, " the student said.

Another businessman and wife (names withheld) who are operators of a popular retail and drinking spot in Navrongo were also attacked and robbed at gunpoint of their cash amount of Ghc3,000 and mobile phones by the same assailants the same night.

Confirming the report, Chief Inspector, A. K Danso said they have also received several other reported cases of unsuccessful robbery attempts on farmers plying the Naaga road. According to the chief Inspector, Navrongo is such a small town for robbery activities to thrive. He urged residents to remain calm and make available intelligence that will lead to the arrest of these criminals. He also added that Police visibility and intensive night patrols have been pushed a knob higher to weed out criminals.

ECG to lose over GHS2 million in credit refunds

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will lose over GHS2 million in credit refunds to customers, the Public Relation Officer (PRO) for ECG has said.

The Public Utility Regulatory Commission has directed the Electricity Company of Ghana to pay compensation to power consumers living around Achimota, Korle-Bu and other areas of Accra who were unable to buy power in December 2017.

The meter challenge caused massive distress for residents of the affected areas ending in the huge crowd storming ECG offices in the area.

Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for ECG, William Boateng mentioned that the company will refund credit equivalent of the amount purchased and not a refund of the cash paid for the credit.

According to him, credits worth GHS1000 will be refunded to affected consumers.

“The distribution of the compensation has been categorized according to residential and commercial users of the credits. Residential users are likely to receive less credits than commercial users,” he added.

U.S. Customs seizes $143,000 from three passengers on Ghana flights

0

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized $143,968 in unreported currency from two men who departed for Ghana, and one who arrived from Ghana in three separate incidents during the weekend at Washington Dulles International Airport.
CBP is not releasing the travellers’ names because none was criminally charged.

During outbound inspection operations Sunday, CBP officers seized $100,111 from a man destined for Accra, Ghana, who initially claimed that he possessed $2,000. CBP officers discovered $10,000 in each of 10 bank envelopes in the man’s backpack.

Earlier Sunday, CBP officers seized $20,031 from a man who arrived from Ghana who initially reported that he possessed $10,000. During an inspection, CBP officers discovered an additional $10,000 wrapped in a t-shirt in the man’s carry-on bag, plus another $31 in loose pocket currency.

On Saturday, CBP officers seized $23,826 from a man bound for Ghana after a currency detector dog alerted to his carry-on bag. The man initially reported that he possessed $5,000. A baggage exam revealed $23,826 in a suit jacket and a camera bag.

Travelers may carry as much currency as they wish in and out of the United States. Federal law requires that travellers must report all U.S. and foreign monetary instruments totalling $10,000 or greater on a U.S. Treasury Department financial form. None of the currency is taxed.

“Customs and Border Protection encourages travellers to be completely honest when reporting all their currency during an inspection with a CBP officer, or be prepared to face severe consequences,” said Daniel Mattina, CBP Area Port Director for the Area Port of Washington Dulles.

“The best way for travellers to hold onto their currency is to fully comply with our nation’s currency reporting laws.”

Following each currency seizure, CBP officers provided a humanitarian monetary release of $1,111 to the man who departed the U.S. on Sunday, $826 to the man who departed on Saturday, and $831 to the man who arrived in the U.S. on Sunday. CBP released all three men to continue to travel.

“CBP officers not only ensure that inbound travelers and cargo comply with U.S. laws and regulations, but they also conduct outbound examinations to safeguard the revenue of the U.S. These inspections protect against unreported exportations of bulk U.S. currency, which often can be proceeds from alleged illicit activity,” said Casey Owen Durst, Director, CBP’s Field Operations Director in Baltimore “These significant currency seizures are a direct reflection of our continuing commitment to enforcing federal currency reporting requirements.”

Travelers are encouraged to visit CBP’s Travel section to learn more about the CBP admissions process and rules governing travel to and from the U.S.

CBP’s Office of Field Operations

Almost a million times each day, CBP officers welcome international travellers into the U.S. In screening both foreign visitors and returning U.S. citizens, CBP uses a variety of techniques to intercept narcotics, unreported currency, weapons, prohibited agriculture, and other illicit products, and to assure that global tourism remains safe and strong.

On a typical day, CBP seizes $289,609 in undeclared or illicit currency along the nation’s borders.

CBP’s border security mission is led at ports of entry by CBP officers from the Office of Field Operations. Please visit CBP Ports of Entry to learn more about how CBP’s Office of Field Operations secures our nation’s borders.

What my “case 5” football taught me about worth

0

Back in primary school, I bought my first football ever― a “Case 5” football. Possessing one of such added a lot to one’s “social standing” and God knows how long I saved and fasted to make this dream come true. Indeed, I had to tame my hunger to buy this pleasure.

After buying this seemingly priceless asset, I treated it pricelessly. Every morning, I would clean it so well and put it in my bag before leaving for school. In the evening, I would bathe it like a baby and sleep with it by my side. All through the day, I was utterly careful how it was played around… because I knew its worth!

When we know the worth of what we have, we guard it with all our lives. When we value our possessions, we don’t waste them― we don’t treat them as cheap things. If something is of value to you, you’d do everything to keep it, even if it means taming your pleasures!

The first possession every man has is his own self. We are our own possessions. If we have no idea of our value, others will negotiate this value. They will tell us how much we are worth― and it is going to be far lesser than what really the worth is. Obviously, in the absence of value, abuse is inevitable.

Every man has worth. There’s a price tag on the head of every man. Interestingly, it has got nothing to do with how much they have in their bank account. Neither has it got anything to do with how many possessions they have amassed. Every soul is worthy!

One’s worth is inherent and it is non-negotiable. When you walk into a retail shop, products have fixed prices. Our lives have fixed prices. Don’t allow people come in to negotiate. Anyone who knows their worth doesn’t lower their standards for others to accept them. If you know your worth, you’d admit that no one does you a favor by loving you!

Your worth is your inherent wealth. How you perceive yourself is how the world will receive you. If you think you don’t matter, you’re right. If you think you matter, you’re just as right. No one will buy you any more than the price tag you put on yourself.  Self-value is reciprocal. The value you put on yourself is the value others will put on you.

Knowing your worth helps you harness your wealth. It leads you where you’re honored… not where you’re contained. Until you know how priceless you are, you will admit every treatment― good or bad.

Until we know our worth, people will take us for granted. They’ll walk into our lives and bargain according to their own favorable terms. They’ll measure our worth according to their imbalanced scale. Your life is not a street market. Your price tag is non-negotiable. Stop negotiating with low self esteem!

Worth is fragile, thus, can be abused. Like I did for my football, one needs to guard their esteem with their whole life. One needs to protect their value lest others undervalue it. If you know your value, you know where to belong. If you know your value, you won’t embrace abuse in any relationship. Value determines when to stay… and when to leave. Note that you always deserve better.

If you know your worth, you know which battles to fight. Some people are just not worth your attention. Others jab us with all manner of provocations because they want to drag us to their level and beat us with experience. Don’t fight pigs in the mud. Mind you, it is their comfort zone.

Define your worth before others define it wrongly for you. Define your circle of friends. Define your space. Define you. How we define ourselves becomes our value. How others define us only becomes their opinion. Don’t misrepresent people’s opinion about you as your value!

Place a price tag on yourself before others do. Know your value lest people undervalue you. If others walk into your life and find no price tag, they can’t help but negotiate… and eventually misplace this value. If they meet a life tagged with self-pity and no self esteem, they’d eventually play god in your life.

Like my football, every product of value is regarded with value. If a man knows his worth, he defines his terms and conditions before others walk into his life. Granting him audience becomes a rare opportunity… not a favor. He walks out when nonsense walks in!

Know your worth. You didn’t just fall from the skies onto earth. You didn’t just happen. You’re not a mistake. The same blood that runs in the veins of every other person runs through you, too. As much as others matter, you do matter, too. Stop stooping low. Stop looking down on this all-expensive “Case 5” football― you!

When we lose our value, we lose our essence in life. We admit that we are “shitholes”. We live all our lives unfulfilled. We belittle our innate abilities when we give others space to define our value. Our talents never get exploited because others’ opinions about us become what we live by.

Define your worth. Define your moral standards. Don’t lower them to accommodate others. Define who you are and who you are not before others do so. The more you appreciate your value, the better your life will be. You are your worth… and your worth is you!

Guess what. My ever valuable football was stolen one hot afternoon. You could imagine the value of my tears! Haha.
