The mortal remains of ex-Black Stars winger Christian Atsu have arrived in Ghana for burial.
The body of the late skilled football player arrived at exactly 7:40 p.m. on Sunday night via Turkish Airlines.
The ex-Ghana star lost his life in the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria 13 days ago, claiming the lives of over 46,000 people. Atsu’s body was finally discovered on Saturday morning, and arrangements were made by the Government of Ghana through Ghana’s Mission in Turkey to send the body to Ghana for burial.
The Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, led a government delegation to the Kotoka International Airport to receive the mortal remains of Atsu.
The Vice President promised that the government would see to it that the late ex-Newcastle player was properly buried.
Hundreds of well-wishers and sympathizers thronged the Kotoka Airport to catch a glimpse of the casket of the late Atsu, who is being celebrated by many Ghanaians for his unmatched charitable deeds.
The late football player supported many prisoners in Ghana with donations; he always made time to visit some of the country’s prisons to support inmates.
The late Astu played for several football clubs, including Newcastle United, FC Porto, Everton, and Bournemouth Hatayspor.
