The General Secretary for the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Cyril Fayose, has revealed that measures to avert attacks in the churches are being put in place.

This statement comes after Ghana’s National Security cautioned churches against possible similar attacks following the activities of terrorist groups in neighbouring West African countries

A statement from Ghana’s National Security said measures have been instituted in order to forestall these attacks however, the churches must also be on alert.

According to the statement, the measures instituted include installation of Closed-Circuit Televisions (CCTVs) in churches, as well as engaging the services of accredited private security agencies.

“In view of the growing threats of terrorism from the subregion and the expansionist drive of terrorist groups towards Coastal West African states, with a renewed modus operandi of targeting public gatherings including places of worship, it is imperative that precautional measures are taken by all stakeholders,” a statement from the national security said.

In an interview with host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Rev. Cyril Fayose, said the council relayed the information to the various denominations as soon as the Christian Council received the statement.

He revealed that some churches already have security measures in place and that those without security measures have begun the process to protect their premises.

“Safety measures to avert attacks in the offing. Our member churches have been informed and they are doing their best to prevent the attacks. Churches who didn’t have measures in place have begun the installation of CCTV cameras, walling all premises and providing a 24hr security personnel at the premises”, Rev. Cyril Fayose told Kaakyire Ofori Ayim.

Rev. Cyril Fayose also asked church members to be vigilant and report suspicious persons to the church authorities.
