Settle Ghana approved as member of IRMA

Settle Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization based in Ghana which is into advocacy for the rights of indigenous people especially in mining communities, has finally been approved as a member of the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA). 

Settle Ghana is the lead advocate for the Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) to be made a law in Ghana.

This is aimed at establishing a bottom-up participation and consultation of the indigenous population prior to the beginning of development and exploration of natural resources in indigenous communities in Ghana.

In view of this, IRMA has approved Settle Ghana as a member, joining others to drive greater environmental and social responsibility in mining.

Settle Ghana intends to continue work to champion the interest and rights of the indigenous people in mining communities. 

IRMA is a global, multi stakeholder effort aimed at encouraging dialogue and increased transparency to ensure more socially and environmentally responsible mining.

It uses independent third party auditing to explore alternative ways of ensuring best practices and compliance in the mining value chain. 

Settle Ghana as a stakeholder, pledged to contribute to this agenda of ensuring safety for the indigenous people in mining communities in Ghana.
