Special prosecutor office handicapped – Dr. Steve Manteaw

Chairman for the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC), Dr. Steve Manteaw, says the office of the Special Prosecutor is disadvantaged hence its inability to function effectively as expected.

Citizen Vigilante, Martin Amidu was nominated by President Akufo-Addo on January 11, 2018, to occupy the Special Prosecutor office aimed at tackling corruption.

Martin Amidu, after assuming office, has been criticized for not tackling corruption as expected of him.

However, in an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Chairman for the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC), Dr. Steve Manteaw mentioned that the special prosecutor’s office lacks all the needed resources to pursue corruption dealings.

He noted that the Special Prosecutor office lacks its personal team of investigators, prosecutors and lawyers who would have made the work effective.

He stated that these people would have made further investigations aside the initial investigations that would be made.

“I am force to believe that the lack of resources and personnel is a deliberate attempt to frustrate the citizen vigilante from performing his duties as expected of him. I know him and I will not be surprised if he resigns due to the lack of these resources.”, he reiterated.
