State Vs Adu Boahene: Defense Pushes for Missing Bank Records in Evidence

State VS Adu Boahene

Legal tensions rose yesterday in the ongoing case between the Republic and Kwabena Adu Boahene, Former Director General of the National Signals Bureau, as defense lawyers pushed for full disclosure of investigation materials they believe could clear their client’s name.

At the continuation of the Case Management Conference, Counsel for Adu Boahene, Lawyer Atta Akyea, filed a motion requesting the court to order the Attorney General (AG) to release all exculpatory evidence—information that may prove his client’s innocence.

He pointed out that the bank statements provided by the AG during disclosures were incomplete, with several pages missing.

According to the defense, the missing pages may contain critical evidence that supports Adu Boahene’s innocence.

The defense is also demanding access to records from the National Security Operational Account, dating back to 1992. Lawyer Akyea said these records could reveal a pattern relevant to the case.

But the Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem Sai, opposed the motion.

He argued that the missing pages concern the accused’s own bank accounts and can be obtained directly by them. He also described the request for national security account details as irrelevant to the case.

The court has scheduled a ruling on the matter for July 3, 2025.
