The Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association, Sampson Asaaki Awingobit, has asked owners of Tanker vehicles to reject increased transporter fee from the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST).
This comes after BOST in a letter addressed to the National Chairman of Tanker Owners Union in Tema said that it had considered concerns raised by members of the union with respect to the steady rise in the cost of BRV operations borne by BOST over the years.
In the letter, BOST mentioned that it had pegged the increased transporter fee at Fifty Ghana Cedis.
“In the light of the above, we hereby fix the fee at Fifty Ghana Cedis (GHS50,000) per transporter for a minimum of 10 trucks and five thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS5,000) for each additional truck.”
“We belive the adjustment would be of mutual benefit in our quest to do business together and also reinforce the value we place on our respective entities,” excerpts of the statement from BOST read.
Reacting to the statement in an interview on Atinka FM’s AM Drive, with host Nana Yaw Fianko, the Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association, Sampson Asaaki Awingobit expressed displeasure in the statement from BOST.
He stressed on the fact that the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) is the regulator of the transport owners and not BOST.
“NPA is the regulator. Every transport owner is to register with NPA and not register with BOST. I strongly believe that transport owners should not accept this; they should not pay this money. Paying this money means you are paying double, you pay money to NPA and then BOST?,” Awingobit opined.
