A Security and International Relations Expert, Irbad Ibrahim, has urged the government and the media to be cautious when disseminating security information to the public.

His advice comes after the Ministry of National Security advised all religious groups in the country to institute security measures in their places of worship.

The Ministry of National Security urged all religious groups in the country to institute security measures in their places of worship.

The Ministry explained that this is in view of the growing threat of terrorism in the sub-region, and the expansionist drive of terrorist groups towards the coastal West-African States, with a renewed modus operandi of targeting public gatherings, including places of worship.

The Ministry in a statement said, although it is collaborating with the relevant State Security and Intelligence Agencies to institute measures to avert terrorist attacks in the country, it is imperative that these religious groups also enhance security, “, particularly in areas where mass gatherings are conducted.”

“These measures may include, but are not limited to, the installation of CCTV cameras at designated places of worship, and engaging the services of approved Private security guards, among others.”

Speaking on Atinka TV‘s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Irbad Ibrahim said putting the measures out there might alert the terrorists and inform their next line of action.

He said it will also cause fear and panic to the public and as well deter investors from coming forth to do business in the country when they feel the country may be attacked by terrorists.

Irbad Ibrahim advised that the government shares information with security agencies rather than the public.

“I believe that we just need to continue what we have done over the years, within the security and intelligence circle. There should be stronger collaborations with defense and intelligence agencies within the sub region which has already been happening. We know that Ghana and Togo, Burkina Faso and Cote d’ Ivoire are sharing intel, as to the extent of what alertness we should get, the public does not need to know, it is unnecessary,” he stated.
