Tidal Wave: Mahama playing politics with issue – MP

Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central and Vice Chairman for Finance Committee in Parliament, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of playing partisan politics with the Keta Tidal Wave issue.

About 300 households and over 3,000 residents at Keta lost their properties and others have been rendered homeless as a result of tidal wave that happened on Sunday 7th November 2021.

The affected communities include Kedzikope, Keta Central and Abutiakope.

As a result of the tidal wave, most schools in the area were submerged with social activities coming to a stand still.

After the disaster, former President John Dramani Mahama visited the affected areas to commiserate with the affected victims.

In the company of the Volta Caucus in Parliament, the former president as part of his visit made a donation of relief items to the over 3,000 victims.

The items packed on a long haulage trailer include dozens of mattresses, bags of rice and other packaged food items.

After this gesture by the former President, calls were made on government to send humanitarian aid to the victims of the tidal wave although the NADMO had gone to the aid of the victims.

Commenting on the issue in an interview with sit-in-host Nana Owoahene Acheampong on Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Patrick Yaw Boamah asked the NDC if the former President presented reliefs items to persons who were hit by similar disasters in the Ashanti Region, Eastern and Savanna regions.

According to the lawmaker, the NDC is only trying to score political points with the issue.

“ This Keta Tidal waves that Okudzeto is talking about, when the Ashanti Region was hit by flood, there was no John Mahama, when same happened to people in the Savanna Region , we didn’t see John Mahama. They have decided to score mere political points with the issue,” Patrick Yaw Boamah told Nana Owoahena Acheampong.

He reiterated that government is working with NADMO to find a lasting solution to the issue.
