Adum

Two individuals are in police custody for allegedly attempting to steal from stores that were destroyed in the devastating fire that swept through Adum, Kumasi, on Friday, March 21.

The fire, which started around 6 a.m. at the Blue Light arena near Hello FM, rapidly spread through a two-story building housing multiple shops, causing widespread destruction.

As firefighters battled the raging flames, some individuals took advantage of the chaos to loot valuables from the affected stores. However, swift intervention by security officers, including police and fire personnel, led to the arrest of the suspects.

Authorities have since intensified security in the area to prevent further looting and ensure public safety. Security personnel remain on high alert as investigations continue into the cause of the fire.

President John Dramani Mahama has visited the Central Business District of Adum in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to assess the aftermath of a devastating fire that destroyed hundreds of shops.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has condemned the attack on its officers by some youth in Adum, Kumasi, as they battled the raging fire that has razed over 400 properties.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Atinkaonline, the Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, ADO1 Alex King Nartey, described the assault as senseless and counterproductive, stressing that such actions only hinder their efforts in firefighting.

“Attacking our men doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t help our operations in any way. Instead of obstructing us, the public should support us in our efforts to contain fires,”- he said.

He also blamed local assemblies for failing to implement the fire service’s recommendations due to fear, stressing that such inaction only worsens the situation.
