UTAG yet to return to class despite agreeing to end strike

UTAG end

The President for the National University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Dr Solomon Nunoo, says the association does not know when it will return to class in spite of its agreement to end the 5-week strike.

An Accra High Court placed an interlocutory injunction on the industrial action by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).

The injunction was in line with an appeal by the National Labour Commission (NLC) for an interlocutory injunction to stop the strike by UTAG.

The presiding Judge, His Lordship Rockson Aboadwe, in his ruling said the negotiations between both parties would not yield the needed results if the strike persists and thus granted the injunction.

The university teachers have not returned to the classroom despite the NLC’s injunction that was secured on their strike.

UTAG’s strike commenced an industrial strike Monday, January 10.

The University lecturers, who have been demanding better conditions of service, have accused the government and the NLC of not having the interest of university teachers at heart.

Speaking to Kaakyire Ofori Ayim on Atinka FM’s AM Drive, President of the National University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Professor Solomon Nunoo stated that the association will come clearly with their next line of action soon.

“We are putting measures in place to return to the classroom as we have agreed to end the strike but I cannot say when exactly. We will meet and decide how to go on from there. Like I said now we have to go back to negotiate again and see the way forward. I would want to plead with the general public to have patience we will come out clearly with what we want to do,” Professor Solomon Nunoo added.
