Vigilantism Committee to ensure code of conduct is adhered to – Peace Council

 
 
 
The General Secretary for Ghana National Peace Council, George Amoh, says the 10-member committee, which has been inaugurated will ensure that the code of conduct for political parties are adhered to.
The National Peace Council (NPC) on Monday, August 3 inaugurated a 10-member National Monitoring Committee for the implementation of the Code of Conduct and Roadmap on political vigilantism in Ghana.
Some Members of the 10-member Committee include; Mr Vincent Azumah, West Africa Network for Peace building, Dr Imurana Mohammed, National Commission for Civic Education, and Sheikh Aramiyaw Shaibu, Spokesperson of the National Chief Imam.
The two main political parties, the NDC and NPP signed the final Roadmap and Code of Conduct designed to end political vigilantism in the country.
The National Peace Council (NPC) facilitated dialogue was supported by the Government of Ghana, the UNDP, the CDD, the IDEG, WANEP, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference, the Christian Council, the Office of the National Chief Imam, Ghana Pentecostal Council etc.
Speaking on the inauguration on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi, the General Secretary of the Ghana National Peace Council, George Amoh said the committee will work as a team and report findings to the general public.
“The committee will closely monitor the political parties and ensure that they strictly adhere to the code of conduct they signed. The essence is to measure performance and adherence to the code one after the other. For instance, the Peace Council has asked the political parties to distance itself from vigilante groups. The committee will make sure the parties are doing just that and inform the appropriate quarters or otherwise”, he added
