Member of Parliament for Builsa South and Deputy Ranking for the Education Committee in Parliament, Dr. Clement Apaak says the petition to investigate leakage in the 2020-21 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is needed to redeem the integrity of exams.

The Members of Parliament for Builsa South and Akatsi North, Dr Clement Appak and Peter Nortsu-Kotoe respectfully, have filled a motion to investigate leakage in the 2020-21 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Cement Apaak and Peter Nortsu-Kotoe are Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

This comes after WAEC rescheduled the 2021 WASSCE Physics and Business Management examinations in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) following some alleged leakages.

The two papers which were to be written on Wednesday, September 15 was rescheduled by the regulatory body.

Speaking at a press conference after the incident, The Head of the Council’s Test Administration Division, George Ohene-Mantey, The cheating social media groups were in full swing prior to the conduct of the 2021 WASSCE mathematics and the English language papers on 9th and 13th September.

“After the administration of the test, careful scrutiny of the several versions [of suspected leaks] received indicated that extracts of parts of the questions in mathematics elective two and section A of English Language two were circulated on social media platforms,” he added.

Speaking to host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Dr Clement Appak explained that the recurrent leakage of WASSCE exams, when left unattended to, will create a bad image for Ghana’s educational sector.

The lawmaker noted that the petition to investigate leakage will go a long way to boost the integrity of the exams and the integrity of the certificates issued after the exams.

“It looks as if every year the WASSCE papers leak and it is not the best. It has the tendency of rendering our certificates invalid in the long run. But it looks as if over the years WAEC, the Education Ministry and other stakeholders have not been bold to take on this issue,” Dr. Clement Apaak added.

Meanwhile, educational  Think tank, Eduwatch,  has also called on the security agency to take up the matter.

“We are unable to share the content of our petition since it could interfere with investigations. We will keep working with state agencies to improve accountability and credibility in Ghana’s pre-tertiary assessments sector”, Executive Director of EduWatch, Kofi Asare posted on Facebook.
