“We cannot be held liable for the actions of vigilante groups” – NPP

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, says the party did not form pro NPP vigilante groups such as Delta Force hence the party cannot disband or be held liable for the group's actions.

Delta Force, a vigilante group perceived to be pro NPP recently disrupted a party meeting in Old Tafo in the Ashanti region. The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Dr. Osei Akoto, had to be quickly  taken away to safety. Two suspects have since been arrested by the police and are assisting investigations.

Civil society and religious groups have added their voice to the issue of vigilantism calling on the executives of the party to disband these groups.

In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Member of Parliament for Adentan explained that the Delta Force and other vigilante groups are not acknowledged groups in the party.

According to him, although these groups sometimes work in the interest of the NPP, it is not a group which can be dissolved or disbanded by the Party executives.

“We know them and we know that they sometimes work in our interest. We wish to state that violence is not in our interest and we cannot accept violent acts. We do not send these groups to beat up and slap people”, he added.

He appealed to the vigilante groups to be mindful of the violent actions they associate themselves with since the law will catch up with them.
