2020 Best Teacher recounts how he turned down nomination offer 10 times

Ghana’s 2020 best Teacher, Eric Asomani, has revealed how he  declined the offer to be nominated by his School for the Best Teacher award scheme over the past ten years.

Eric Asomani, who teaches ICT at the Naylor Seventh Day Adventist School in Tema Community 6, says he has over the past 10 years declined to be selected and nominated by his school for the award.

39-year-old Eric Asomani  who has over 12 years of experience in teaching was adjudged the Most Outstanding Teacher in Ghana at the National Teachers’ Day Celebration at the University of Cape Coast in the Central Region.

Eric Asomani teaches Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Integrated Science at the Naylor Seventh Day Adventist School in Tema.

He received a 3-bedroom house worth GHC180,000.00 and other assorted items  for emerging Most Outstanding Teacher in Ghana.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive,  Ekourba Gyasi, Eric Asomani, said considering his background, he didn’t see himself winning such an award hence the continued decline.

” To be considered for this huge award, every school selects its best teacher and presents the name to be nominated. Although my school always selects me, for the past 10 years I have declined to avail myself for nomination. Even this year I turned the offer down, I didn’t want to go through any stress. Sometime this year, I was called by the Tema Meteo office to service their computers, I realized that the whole Meteo office did not have enough keyboards for their computers and knowing very well that it will take quite some time to get new ones when a request is made, I purchased new keyboards and fixed it”, he narrated.

Eric Asomani explained that the Meteo office started fishing out for information about him and was asked by his school to reconsider decision to be nominated for the award.
