2020: NDC needs a new face – Sylvester Mensah

A flagbearer hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sylvester Mensah, says the party needs a new face ahead of the 2020 general election.

Speaking with Kaakyire Ofori Ayim on Atinka FM 's hot political show “Simpieso” Tuesday, he said “it is time for the NDC party to introduce a new voice in our political conversation; the time has come for a face, vision, set of relationships, culture, a new hope for the masses”.

“Whoever led us in the 2016 election, was rejected as a leader and of course if you put out a product unto the market and that product is rejected, you don’t simply repackage the product and throwback to the market."

The former NHIS boss said  “if your political product is rejected,  you must understand clearly that the functionality has been problematic and in doing so  you don’t simply need to repackage and throw back onto the market, you need to re-engineer the product and re-engineering the product simply means you are presenting a new product to the extent that the functionality would be different.”

“I think we have operated over an eight-year period in government and at the end of the eighth year, the people of this country expressed gross dissatisfaction with our performance and that reflected in the outcome of the 2016 general election.

He said the NDC lost by a margin close to a million which was unprecedented in the Fourth Republic adding “this tells us there was something fundamentally wrong with the way we manage both government and party”.
