Ghana Statistical Service has launched the 7th Demographic and Health Survey.

The objective of the survey is to provide reliable estimates on key health subjects like fertility levels in Ghana, contraceptive use, antenatal and delivery care, maternal and child health, childhood mortality, women’s diet, and sexually transmitted infections among others.

A total of 15,014 women between the ages of 15-49 years and 7,044 men aged 15-59 years participated in the survey from both urban and rural areas.

The report revealed that fertility in Ghana has declined with women currently having 3.9 children as against 6.4 children in 1988. Women in rural areas according to the report had more children (4.8 children) than women in urban areas (3.2 children).

On knowledge, attitudes, and behavior related to HIV and AIDS, it was observed that 54% of women have ever been tested for HIV. Relative to women, fewer men representing 24% have ever been tested for HIV. The 2022 GDHS also looked at obesity in men, women, and adolescents. 50% of women were found to be obese or overweight with 21% of men considered overweight or obese.

The 2022 Ghana Demographic and Health Survey was implemented by the Ghana Statistical Service with funding from the Ghana government, USAID, and other donor partners.
