A Political Commentator, Prof John Osei Bobbie Boahen says Dr. Bawumia’s request for more time in choosing a running mate is a step in the right direction.

The New Patriotic Party’s Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia requested an extension of time to consult on his selection of a running mate ahead of the 2024 election.

The Party’s General Secretary, Mr Justin Frimpong Kodua, made this known at a press conference held in Accra after a crucial meeting by the NPP’s National Executive Committee and National Council was held to discuss the matter.

The party’s constitution requires the Flagbearer to choose a running mate one year before the general election.

This will enable the party to sell both to the public ahead of the general elections.

But the Vice President requested for more time in choosing his running mate.

Speaking at the Alisa Hotel, the General Secretary said,”Today should have been the day that our leader of the party and presidential candidate should have presented his running mate to the National Council.”

He continued,”However, upon request from the presidential candidate that his election was done on the 4th of November 23, he needs a bit of time to continue with his consultation before he brings the proposed name to the National Council. And this was unanimously agreed by the National Council.”

Commenting on this on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie with Bernard Lav, Prof John Osei Bobbie Boahen the requested time will help Dr Bawumia to choose well.

“The NPP constitution allows him to ask for more time to choose. We are dealing with human beings and when you listen to the reasons he gave, it makes sense. When you look at the time he was elected the Flagbearer, the thanksgiving he had to do to people, and all the measures he has to put in place, he is not done with all and so for me, if he rushes to elect a running mate, it may bring a whole lot of confusion or vacuum that cannot be filled,” he said.

He continued,”I believe his request is in the right direction, it will help him to put a lot of things in place.”
