Jean Mensah to host women Chairs from eight African Election Management Bodies

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Mrs. Jean Mensa, will host a delegation comprising women Chairpersons from eight Election Management Bodies (EMBs) in Africa.

The EC boss, who doubles as the President of the Executive Committee of the Association of African Election Authorities (AAEA), will host women Chairpersons from eight Election Management Bodies (EMBs) in Africa namely Cape Verde, Liberia, Ethiopia, Malawi, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

A statement signed by the deputy chair for operations at the EC said the meeting seeks to offering an opportunity for Women leaders of EMBs to establish a continental network of Senior Electoral Administrators to foster peer support among women in Election Management Leadership in Africa.

“The meeting is being held under the auspices of the United Nations Development Programme’s Regional Service Centre for Africa and the United Nation’s Electoral Assistance Division in collaboration with International IDEA, the Association of African Election Authorities and the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

“The meeting aims at offering an opportunity for Women leaders of EMBs to establish a continental network of Senior Electoral Administrators to foster peer support among women in Election Management Leadership in Africa.”

“Additionally, the meeting will seek to review international and regional normative frameworks on women’s political participation in Africa,” excerpts of the statement read.

The meeting will take place in Accra on the 5th and 6th of August 2024.
