The Akyemansa District Office of the National Commission on Civic Education has reiterated the call on the populace to shun vote-buying ahead of the December polls.
The District Director, Mr. Andam-Yankson Theophilus, said the practice had reached the tipping point and charged the citizenry to stand against it.
He said this during a parliamentary candidates’ dialogue organised by the NCCE ahead of the polls at Akim Ofoase.
The event created the platform for the parliamentary candidates in the Ofoase/Ayirebi constituency to interact with their constituents and to articulate their visions and policies.
However, only the candidate for the National Democratic Congress, Mr Alfred Osei-Poku, honoured the invitation.
The NCCE District Director said vote-buying was illegal and punishable by law, urging the citizenry to report such acts to the police.
He also asked the gathering to be wary of fake news, misinformation, and disinformation, which could cause chaos during the electioneering period if not checked.
The event was graced by the Kyidomhene of the Ofoase Traditional Council; Nana Agyei Gyimah Adusei Kantinka II, Presiding Member of the District Assembly, Rev. John Kwabena Quainoo; Head pastor of Presbyterian Church, Apostle Emmanuel Damfo; Spiritual Leader of Evangelical Gospel International, Pastor Francis Gyimah of Church of Pentecost and some members of the Inter Party Dialogue Committee.
Some members of the clergy and traditional rulers called for peace before, during and after the polls.
