Adwoa Safo didn’t campaign in Dome-Kwabenya, but she can’t be blamed for defeat – Aide Responds to NPP Chairman

The former Constituency Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and aide to former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, Seth Kofi Osei Kissi, has rejected claims that his boss is responsible for the party’s defeat in the just-ended elections.

His response follows accusations by the NPP Constituency Chairman, Robert Osei Bonsu, who blamed Adwoa Safo for the party’s loss. The chairman’s remarks came after the Concerned NPP Members of Dome-Kwabenya held a press conference accusing the party’s executives of causing their defeat at the 2024 elections.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s Evening News with Ebenezer Madugu, Osei Kissi admitted that Adwoa Safo did not actively campaign for the party’s parliamentary candidate, Mike Oquaye Jnr., but insisted that she should not be blamed for the outcome.

“I respect Chairman Bonsu a lot; he is my uncle. But the most annoying part is that we went for primaries, and Hon. Adwoa Safo didn’t win. It was the responsibility of the winner to unite the party, but they expected her to do what they did to her in 2020. The same people now blaming her were the ones used against her back then. They even encouraged skirt-and-blouse voting against her, yet she won. Now that the tables have turned, they should take responsibility instead of pointing fingers at Adwoa Safo,” he argued.

When asked by the news anchor Ebenezer Madugu about the role Adwoa Safo played in Mike Oquaye Jnr.’s campaign, Kissi stated that no one reached out to her to participate.

“She was the sitting MP at the time, but the constituency executives made it clear they didn’t need her, so she focused on the national campaign for Dr. Bawumia. Even Apostle Kwadwo Safo, her father, is a unifier, yet Oquaye Jnr. never campaigned in Kristo Asafo Church, where a large number of NPP supporters worship. Nobody needed a special invitation to enter any church to campaign, but they ignored it. Now they want to blame Adwoa Safo?” he quizzed.

He further compared the situation to the recent NPP presidential primaries, saying Dr. Bawumia quickly reached out to his opponents after his victory to unify the party.

“After elections, things happen. It’s natural to feel hurt, but unity must be prioritized. Even in churches, misunderstandings arise, but they find ways to resolve them. That was the leadership the Dome-Kwabenya executives failed to show,” he added.

Osei Kissi concluded by stating that the NPP’s National Reconciliation Committee, led by Prof. Mike Oquaye Snr., has already visited the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency. The party awaits its findings and recommendations.
