The newly sworn-in Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, says he is deeply honored to lead the Ghana Police Service, vowing to uphold discipline, professionalism, and transparency in his administration.

Speaking at his swearing-in ceremony at the Jubilee House, COP Yohuno expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for entrusting him with the leadership of the service, describing the appointment as a personal milestone.

“Being entrusted with such a pivotal role signifies a personal milestone. It acknowledges the dedication, hard work, and commitment that have shaped my career since I joined the service in 1985,”- he stated.

He pledged to build on the values, traditions, and culture of the Ghana Police Service, aligning his leadership with the President’s vision of security sector reforms.

COP Yohuno emphasized that his administration would be guided by discipline, respect for hierarchy, transparency, accountability, and fairness.

Addressing concerns about public trust in the police, he stressed the importance of community engagement and partnership policing, urging Ghanaians to see security as a shared responsibility.

“Policing is a collective responsibility. Community engagement and partnership will be key strategies in fighting crime,” – he said.

His appointment comes amid controversy surrounding the removal of his predecessor, Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, a move that triggered mixed reactions, including jubilations from some police officers.

Acknowledging the service of past leaders, he assured his colleagues that he would remain diligent and transparent, working to create a secure environment where justice, peace, and stability thrive.

“I will do everything within my power to ensure that our security remains proactive and responsive. Together, we will build the police service we all aspire to,” he affirmed.

COP Yohuno now faces the task of restoring unity within the service and addressing pressing security challenges, as he begins his tenure as Ghana’s new IGP.
